A RACE TO MY HEART

CHAPTER 1 PART 1

"Good news boys!" the DBSK boys manager suddenly announced as soon as he entered the boys' apartment.

"What is it hyung?" Micky asked curiously.

"Well there is going to be a big racing competition here in Japan. And the organizers want a group to sing and promote a song for the race. And that group is you guys," their manager answered happily.

"Racing competition? What kind? Do you mean . . . as in real race cars? Do we get the chance to ride on one of them? Or better yet . . . do we get the chance to meet some famous race car drivers?" Max asked excitedly.

The DBSK boys' manager suddenly laughed. "Max . . . don't get over excited. Don't worry. You'll get the chance to see and ride on real race cars because you will all be doing a commercial for the promotion of the competition. And aside from that, you will also get the chance to meet all the race car drivers who will be competing in the race."

"Really?" Max asked as his eyes suddenly lit up with joy.

Jaejoong, Xiah, Micky and U-Know all laughed as well. Max had really shown his young and innocent side.

"So hyung when is the race going to be held? And when are we going to start recording the song and making the commercial?" U-Know asked.

"Well the race is going to be held next month. And the recording of the song will start the day after tomorrow. As for the commercial, I think it will start next week. There are still some changes that need to be worked out," their manager answered.

"Wow! That is fast. We just learned about this today and it will immediately begin after tomorrow?" Xiah commented.

"Yes, the organizers and sponsors of the race are in a hurry to finish the commercial. Oh! And before I forget, there will be a gathering on Sunday for all the people involved in the race. and that includes you guys. So all of you must attend, " the older man said.

"Sunday? That's six days from now. We still have a lot of time to prepare right?' Jaejoong said.

"Yes . . . That event is still a very big occasion. A lot of high profile people will be attending. So you guys should really prepare," their manager said again.

"But I thought you said that it is only for people involved in the race? How come many people will be attending too?" Max asked.

"This race is sponsored by five huge companies. And there are more than sixty drivers from different countries competing. So it is already attracting the interest of many people. And based on what I learned, some media personalities will also be attending because the organizers will finally introduce all the drivers who will be joining the competition. So you guys better prepare yourselves. You will also be introduced together with the drivers," the DBSK boys' manager said.

"Oh! This is going to be exciting," Max suddenly exclaimed.

The other four DBSK boys laughed again. They were all very hoping and excited as well. They had never seen real race cars up close and they had never met any race car drivers before. So this project was certainly very interesting and new to all of them.

Days passed by quickly . . . and it was already Sunday.

The DBSK boys were already sitting in their van, and on their way to the hotel where the special event for the race was going to be held.

"Hyung . . . Do you think there will be movie personalities in the gathering we are going to?" Max suddenly asked.

"I'm not really sure. But what I do know is that a certain girl in the race is already attracting a lot of attention. Well, it is based on what I heard, of course," their manager said.

"A girl? Why? Don't tell me, there's a female driver who is going to join the competition?" Micky suddenly asked with interest.

U-Know suddenly laughed. "Here we go again. Micky's eyes have suddenly lit up with joys again. He's already interested in the race because of the girl hyung mentioned."

"Hey! It's just that it's very uncommon for a guy like me to actually meet a girl who is more adventurous and who has more guts than me. I've never met a female race car driver before. That's why I am very much interested to meet this girl," Micky tried to explain his side.

"Yeah . . . me too. I am quite curious as to what a female race car driver would actually look like. I mean if she would be pretty or not," Xiah added.

"Well, what do you guys expect? Of course . . . she will look like any ordinary girl. I think there would be no difference at all . . . except maybe if she knows how to cook . . . then that would certainly make a big difference," Max said with a laugh.

Everyone looked at Max. And then they all sighed. Whether a simple or serious conversation, Max still couldn't stop himself from thinking about food.

He was constantly finding some excuse or way to mention about food in all of their conversation.

"Max . . . can you please just stop thinking about food even for one minute?" Jaejoong asked as he suddenly tapped his forehead in disbelief about what Max had said.

Max laughed. "Sorry, hyung. You know how much I love food. All kinds of foods and dishes to be exact."

"I wonder, do you guys think that there is a possibility that maybe somewhere . . . there is a certain girl that can match up with Max's huge appetite?" Xiah suddenly asked the other DBSK boys.

Jaejoong, Micky and U-Know all looked at each other. Somehow they couldn't imagine a girl with a big appetite for food just like Max's. After a few minutes of thinking, all of them started to laugh uncontrollably.

"Hey! Why are you guys laughing?" Max asked with a hurt look on his face.

"Honestly, I can't even try to imagine what a girl with the same appetite as you would actually look like," Micky said with a big laugh.

"Why?" Max asked again.

"Well . . . I can certainly imagine what a girl with Max's appetite would look like . . . " Xiah said with a big grin on his face.

"Well what?" Jaejoong asked.

"Imagine a . . . huge elephant . . ." Xiah said as he suddenly burst out laughing.

Jaejoong, Micky and U-Know and their manager laughed.

"Hey! That's unfair," Max shouted.

"Don't worry, Max. I'm sure you'll meet the perfect girl someday. As for her looks . . . don't worry. I know she'll look just fine," Jaejoong said as he tried to console Max.

"Speaking of girls . . . Hyung do you know the name of the girl who's going to join the race?" Micky suddenly asked their manager.

"Why do you ask?" the older man asked.

Xiah suddenly laughed. "Don't tell me that you're interested in that girl. She's way out of your league."

"I was just asking her name. What's wrong with that?" Micky asked with an innocent look on his face.

U-Know suddenly laughed as well. "I wouldn't even dare think of what would happen once you get the chance to meet that girl."

"Well, I am sure that hyung will find a way to capture that girl's attention," Max said with a broad smile.

"Are you guys teasing me again?" Micky asked suddenly as if hurt.

Jaejoong laughed. "No . . . of course not. We're just expressing what's on our minds."

Micky the shook his head as a sign of disbelief. His friends were totally making fun of him, he thought.

Xiah suddenly placed his arm around Micky's shoulder. "Hey! Don't be so serious. We're just fooling around. But honestly, a race car driver is really way too much for all of us. Let's just say, she's someone we can never be able to handle."

"You're certainly right. That girl is really too uncontrollable for anyone of you to handle. Someone told me that girl in the race is the youngest female driver ever to actually pass and be accepted in the race. They say the organizers in the competition at first . . . were somehow reluctant to let her join because aside from being young. She's actually the one and only daughter of a big business magnate in the US. They say the organizers were somehow afraid that if something bad happened to her, her father might blame the organizers and cause trouble.

"So she's rich? So why does she need to put her life in danger like that? Frankly, I don't get it. I don't understand why some people love racing so much to the point that they don't care about their own safety," Max commented.

"Well, maybe that's the whole point. Maybe she's so rich that she's done everything that she ever wanted that she's trying racing now just to experience something new," Xiah replied.

"I really can't understand it. And somehow I don't think I can ever get along with a person like that. I believe we should always make use and enjoy our lives properly. And honestly I think racing is just a waste of time, money and effort," Max commented.

"Well, we all have different ambitions or dreams. Maybe that girl's dream is to really become a well-known race car driver. We shouldn't judge her," Jaejoong suddenly said.

"Hey guys! We're here. Better get ready," the DBSK boys' manager suddenly announced.

The DBSK boys' conversation was suddenly stopped. As soon as their van parked in front of the hotel, they immediately noticed the large group of people and reporters waiting outside of the hotel's entrance.

"Wow! So many reporters," Max exclaimed.

"I told you guys this event is big," their manager said.

"Well, what are waiting for?" Micky suddenly said.

Jaejoong laughed. "Micky, you're being over-excited again," he said as a joke.

Several minutes later . . . . .

The DBSK boys were already in the gathering. Everyone was already busy doing different things. Micky was already busy chatting with some girls. While Xiah, U-Know and Jaejoong were busy talking with other celebrities. As for the boys' manager, he was already talking with other managers of other stars.

As for Max . . . .

He wasn't in the mood for talking. He was interested in something else. He started to walk while turning his head, left and right. He was looking for something. Then after a few minutes, he stopped. He had already spotted what he was looking for.

He immediately went up to the buffet table, and started to choose what foods to taste first. He was already eating an appetizer he had picked when . . . .

"You should try that appetizer near the one you're eating now. It's quite good. I've already had five of it," a girl's voice suddenly said in fluent English.

CHAPTER 1 PART 2

Max immediately looked at the girl. She was smiling at him. And instantly, his heart started to beat wildly. She was an Asian, about 5'10", with long black hair and a captivating face and figure.

"You should try this," she said again in fluent English as she pointed at the food she was currently eating. "It's good."

Max stared at the girl. She was very beautiful and obviously very nice. And somehow while she was smiling at him sweetly, his heart was pounding rapidly.

The girl stared at Max for a few minutes. Then she laughed. "You don't understand me?" she asked in English while waiting for an answer.

The girl giggled again. "I'm sorry. I should have spoken in Japanese right away. What I said earlier was that you should try that appetizer near the food that you just ate. It's quite good. In fact, I've already eaten five pieces of it," she said this time in Japanese.

Max suddenly laughed with what the girl had said. "Really? Then I should try it then," he said as he then picked up the appetizer the girl was recommending.

After Max ate the appetizer the girl was suggesting, he immediately smiled back at her.

"Thank you. It's really good. Do you think I can have some more?" he asked.

The girl laughed. "Of course. We can have as many as we want. But we better try the other foods as well. Don't you think so?"

"Yes, you're right. How about we try this one too?" Max asked as he pointed another appetizer.

"Yes . . ." the girl said with a smile.

Max and the girl started to taste the different foods on the buffet table. While eating, they were both exchanging comments on whether the food they ate was good or not, based on their food preferences.

More than thirty minutes passed, Max was already enjoying his time with the girl that he didn't notice that Xiah, Micky, Jaejoong and U-Know were already watching him nearby.

"Look at him! He's already met such a gorgeous girl and he's still busy eating," Micky said in disbelief.

Jaejoong laughed. "Well the girl is busy herself . . . eating."

"Yes, they're both enjoying chatting and eating," Xiah commented with a laugh.

"It seems our little boy has finally found his match. I think that girl has a bigger appetite than him," U-Know said with a laugh as well.

"Yes, I've noticed that. That girl really loves eating," Micky said with a nod.

"Should we interrupt them?" Xiah suddenly asked.

"Definitely . . . yes. Knowing Max, I'm guessing he still doesn't know the girl's name even if he's been with her for more than half an hour now," Micky answered.

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's meet Max's new friend," Xiah said with a laugh.

The four DBSK boys slowly walked up to where Max and his new friend were.

"Max . . . ." Micky called out.

Max then looked at his friends and smiled. "Hyung . . ." he uttered.

"We've been looking for you. So you've been busy eating huh?" Xiah asked.

"Yes, the foods here are totally delicious," Max answered.

"So who is your new friend?" U-Know suddenly asked.

Max then stared at the girl he had been talking with. The girl was smiling at him.

"Uhm . . . . We have been talking with one another for a very long time now. But we still haven't introduced ourselves to one another. I'm Max and you are?" Max said with a smile.

The girl laughed lightly. "I was wondering when you were going to ask my name. I thought you were really more interested in the food we were eating than me," she said in Japanese.

Xiah, Jaejoong, Micky and U-Know suddenly burst out laughing.

Max suddenly blushed. "I'm sorry. I know it’s quite impolite. I only remembered to ask your name after my friends asked about you," he said shyly.

The girl smiled sweetly. "It's okay. Don't worry about it. I was just joking with what I said earlier. Anyway . . . I'm Fate Nakamura. Nice meeting you . . . Max," she said as she gave out her hand to him.

Max immediately reached out and shook hands with her. And the moment that his hand touched her hand, he instantly felt a strange feeling. He felt like he had held her hand before . . . and somehow he didn't want to let go of it.

The girl suddenly smiled after noticing that Max had held her hand for a very long time already.

The other DBSK boys also noticed Max. All of them wanted to laugh, but they just stopped themselves. They didn't want to embarrass their friend.

"Hi! I'm Micky," Micky suddenly said to break Max's hand from Fate's hand.

Then Jaejoong suddenly lightly nudged Max as if to make him come to his senses.

"I'm Xiah . . ."

"I'm U-Know . . ."

"And I'm Jaejoong . . ."

"Nice to meet all of you . . . So are you racers as well?" Fate asked.

"You don't know who we are" Micky asked as if unable to believe.

"No . . . sorry," she replied apologetically.

"That's okay. We're not racers but singers. We're a group called Dong Bang Shin Ki. We're the ones singing the song for the commercial of the race," U-Know explained.

"Oh, I see! I am really sorry. I just arrived in Japan today. So I am not familiar with the things going on," she said.

"So are you a part of the crew of the race or are you from the media?" Xiah asked curiously.

Fate smiled and gently shook her head. "No . . . I'm . . ."

"Fate . . . ." a man's voice suddenly called out.

Suddenly a man came up to them and immediately held Fate's hand. The man was an American, about 6'0 tall, blond, good-looking and with a well-built body.

Max looked at the man. And then at the man's hand as it tightly held Fate's hand. Somehow his heart started to ache.

"I've been looking for you. Come on . . . The program's going to start," the man said to Fate in English.

"Sorry, I got hungry. And then I met some new friends. They’re the ones doing the song for the race," Fate said to the man.

The man then looked at the DBSK boys. " Sorry . . . but we've got to leave. Maybe you can talk again with Fate after the program," he then said in fluent Japanese.

The DBSK boys didn't know what to say, so they just nodded.

"Goodbye . . . Maybe we can continue chatting with one another after the program. Goodbye . . . Max," Fate said as she was gently being pulled away.

Within seconds, Fate disappeared among a crowd of people. Max suddenly asked himself if he was really going to see her again.

Then after several minutes, the program started. All the race car drivers in the competition were introduced, one by one.

While the program was going on, Max's mind was being filled with questions concerning Fate. Somehow he wanted to see her again. But he knew it was somewhat impossible.

Then lastly . . . the organizers introduced the only female driver in the race.

Instantly . . . Max's attention was drawn to the stage.

Max couldn't believe what he was seeing. The female racer everyone was talking about was no other than . . . . Fate.

CHAPTER 2

Max was staring blankly at the TV screen. He had been watching an English movie for more than half an hour. But somehow nothing was getting through his head.

Suddenly . . . he sighed, then just decided to turn off the TV. He was just wasting his time, he suddenly thought. Slowly he walked back into his room and just sat down on his bed. Then he started to stare at his computer.

Somehow he couldn't understand why he was feeling so restless. As he stared at his computer, an idea came into his head. He then hurriedly opened his computer and started to type in a name . . . . Fate Nakamura.

After a few seconds, different pictures and different details came to his view.

Fate had the same age as him, an only daughter of a large business tycoon in America, born in New York but was raised in Japan until she finished her primary education. She was then sent to England until she finished college at the age of 18. Many people considered her gifted since she was able to finish her studies 3 years in advance.

It was in England where she first experienced driving a race car at the age of 16. At first, it was only for fun. But after a few months of undergoing race car courses, her pastime became an obsession.

She continued to practice race car driving almost everyday. But during this time, she still gave great attention to her studies. She was determined to finish early so she could finally devote all her time in racing. So finally at the age of 18, she was able to finish a degree in Business Management in one of the top schools in England.

As soon as she finished college, she immediately focused all her attention in racing. She joined various races in England and United States. Then at the age of 19, she was able to win first place in a racing competition held in Germany. She was the youngest female driver to ever win such a prestigious competition. And since then she had been one of the most sought after race car drivers in the world.

Max sighed. "You're really something," he suddenly exclaimed.

"What are you saying?" Jaejoong suddenly asked.

Startled, Max suddenly turned around to see Jaejoong smiling at him.

"Hyung . . . how long have you been standing there?" Max asked.

"How long? Let's see . . . I think I've already heard you sigh for more than twenty times already," Jaejoong replied with a laugh.

"That long huh?" Max asked with a laugh as well. "I was just browsing . . ."

"Browsing? I don't think so . . . more like . . . seriously reading is the right word," Jaejoong said.

Max suddenly laughed. "You were really watching me all this time?"

Jaejoong just nodded his head. "We've noticed that you haven't been yourself lately. Is there something bothering you?"

"Bothering me? No, nothing is bothering me. Why do you ask?" Max asked curiously.

"Well you've totally been restless since you met that girl in the party," Jaejoong answered.

"Girl? What girl?" Max asked as if in denial.

Jaejoong let out a laugh. "Girl? You know the girl that you spent a lot of time eating with at the buffet table . . . the girl who you forgot to ask what her name was . . . and lastly, the girl displayed on your computer monitor."

Max suddenly turned around to look at his computer. He had totally forgotten that the page he was reading was still open. Totally embarrassed, he slowly closed his computer.

"Hyung . . . don't tell the others okay?" Max said with a grin as he faced Jaejoong again.

"Why not? We all know that Fate is the reason why you're acting funny these passed few days. So there's no use in denying it," Jaejoong said.

"But the others will just continuously tease me, especially Micky," Max said with a sigh.

"God! Will you please stop sighing? You're sounding more like an old man with thousands of problems on his shoulder," Jaejoong said with a mischievous smile.

"What can I do? I really can't explain why I'm feeling this way. It's as if I'm totally drawn to her. I can't get her out of my mind," Max confessed.

Jaejoong laughed lightly. "Is our little boy in love?" he teased.

"Hyung, don't make fun of me please," Max said.

Jaejoong laughed again. "You're really something. You meet a gorgeous girl . . . then you just ignore her and concentrate in the food that you are eating . . . you never asked her name and her number . . . and then afterwards when she's already gone . . . you're saying you can't forget her," he then started to laugh continuously. "Oh! You're killing me . . ." he said again with a laugh.

"Hyung!" Max uttered. He knew what Jaejoong said was right. He was too focused on the food that day. Instead of concentrating or Fate, he was more drawn to the food.

Jaejoong suddenly stopped laughing. He saw the serious expression on Max's face.

"Max . . ." he uttered.

"Hyung, what should I do? Do you think I will ever meet her again?" Max asked seriously.

"I really have no idea. She's here to compete. So she won't have much time to do anything else except racing. And with our busy schedule . . . I really doubt it, if the two of you will ever meet again," Jaejoong answered.

"Oh . . ." Max uttered. He suddenly felt like he was going to have a headache.

Jaejoong suddenly smiled and walked up to Max. Then he gently patted Max's shoulder.

"Just keep your hopes up. Who knows . . . maybe you'll meet again someday . . ." he said. "Come on, let's sleep already. We have a commercial to do tomorrow."

The next day . . . .

The DBSK arrived early at the race track. They wanted to have some time to rest first before doing their commercial.

When they arrived, three cars were already having a race. Several men were scattered on the sides of the race track, watching the ongoing race.

The DBSK boys decided to go where the other men were. They also wanted to watch up close. They were all very curious as to who were the drivers of the three cars.

"Look at that red car! It's so fast," Max exclaimed.

Micky laughed. "I can't even try to imagine myself driving like that."

"I would surely have a heart attack if I was in a car that was moving that fast," Jaejoong uttered.

"I wonder who is the driver of that car," Xiah uttered.

"He must be one of the leading race car drivers in the competition," U-Know commented.

"Look at that other blue car . . . It is always beside the red car. It is really good too," Max suddenly noticed.

"Yes, I've already noticed that too," Jaejoong replied.

The DBSK boys continued to watch until finally the race ended. The red car emerged as the winner.

All the three cars suddenly parked close to where the DBSK boys were standing. Then one by one, the drivers got out of their cars. Then they started to walk to the direction of the DBSK boys. The boys were all focused on the driver of the red race car. They wanted to know who the driver was.

As the driver approached the men near the DBSK boys, they started to take off their helmets . . . one by one.

The DBSK boys were shocked after seeing who the driver of the red race car was.

"It's her!" Micky exclaimed.

Max suddenly smiled. "Fate . . ." he uttered.

Fate immediately noticed Max and she suddenly walked towards the DBSK boys.

"Hello . . . so we meet again," she greeted the boys cheerfully.

Max suddenly felt very nervous. Somehow he wanted to just turn back and hide.

"Hello, nice to see you again," Xiah greeted.

Fate smiled. "So you guys are here for the commercial right?" she asked.

"Yes, how did you know?" Micky asked.

Fate laughed. "I'm one of the drivers who will join you in the commercial."

"Really? That's great! Isn't it . . . Max?" Jaejoong said with a light laugh as he gently nudged Max's shoulder.

"Oh. . . yes. . .yes, that's great," Max uttered nervously.

Fate stared at Max for a very long time as if thinking of something. Somehow it made Max very uneasy. Cold sweat started to show on his forehead.

Fate suddenly walked up to Max. Then she took out her handkerchief from her pocket. And then she surprisingly wiped away the sweat on Max's forehead and face.

"Why are you sweating so much? Are you sick? If you're sick . . . we can just do the commercial tomorrow. You don't have to force yourself," she said worriedly.

Max suddenly froze as Fate stood in front of him.

"I . . .I . . .I'm fine," he tried to say.

"Really? Oh . . . well. you shouldn't let yourself get so soaked in sweat. You might get sick. And besides, having sweat on your face . . . somehow ruins your handsome face," Fate uttered with a smile.

Max felt his heart was having a race of its own. He unexpectedly looked straight into Fate's eyes. Then he grasped Fate's hand that was holding a handkerchief to his face.

At that exact moment . . . somehow the world suddenly stopped . . . everything and everyone disappeared and they were the only ones left.

Max could hear the strong and very fast beating of his heart. While Fate was somehow able to hear it too. She couldn't explain why but she could feel a very strong connection between her and Max.

As they both stared deep into each other's eyes, their hearts continued to beat wildly.

"Fate!" a voice suddenly called out.

It was only then that Fate and Max suddenly snapped out of their trance. Max suddenly realized that he was still holding Fate's hand. He immediately released it and shyly looked away.

Fate suddenly smiled after seeing Max's reaction. "You're cute!" she uttered with a smile.

Max turned to look at Fate. Somehow he couldn't believe what he heard. But Fate had already turned away and was already heading to the man who called her. It was the same man she was with in the conference.

Max's heart suddenly skipped a beat. He couldn't explain it . . . but he knew he was jealous. He shook his head in disbelief. It was impossible for him to fall in love with a girl he barely knew.

He then looked at Fate again, as she slowly walked away.

"Is this what they call love?" he asked himself over and over again.

CHAPTER 3

"Fate . . ." the man sitting beside her said, as if to attract her attention. She had been staring at the DBSK boys, specifically Max for the passed ten minutes.

"Hmmm?" Fate uttered as she looked at the man who called her.

"What's wrong? You've been looking at that guy ever since he arrived," the man said.

Fate lightly laughed. "Michael, are you jealous?"

"Me? Jealous? Are you kidding?" he asked with a grin. "I guess . . . I'm just not used to seeing you . . . drool over a guy," he said with a laugh.

Fate's expression suddenly changed. "Drool? Excuse me! But I've never . . . ever drooled over a guy," she said, obviously irritated. She stood up and was about to walk away when Michael grabbed her hand.

"Hey! Don't be mad. I was just joking," he said as he made a begging expression on his face.

Fate laughed out loud after seeing Michael's face.

The DBSK boys who were busy preparing immediately looked at Fate's direction after hearing her continuous laughing.

Max's heart somehow became heavy after seeing Fate with Michael. He was still holding Fate's hand, and was obviously being sweet with her. But no matter how hard he tried to control his emotions, he was still feeling jealous of Michael. He knew he had no right to feel this way but he just couldn't stop himself.

Michael glanced at the DBSK boys' direction. He then noticed the jealous look on Max's face.

"Fate . . . will you please have pity on the guy . . . I think he's already falling for you. So please stop teasing him. We will only stay here in Japan for maybe more than a month. Then after the race, we will be moving on to France. You don't have the time to have a relationship with anyone . . . You know that, don't you?" he said seriously.

"Michael, I'm not teasing him. It's just that . . . I really like him. I was instantly attracted to him . . . the first time I saw him. But the funny thing was he was really more interested in the food we were eating than me," Fate said with a sweet laugh.

Michael smiled, then he stood up and gently drew Fate closer to him. Slowly he placed his hands around Fate's waist, while both of them stood face to face.

Fate looked straight at Michael. He was a very handsome man. In fact, a lot of women were constantly trying to get close to him. But he always avoided them. He wasn't really interested in women. He didn't have time for them. He was too focused on racing and he was more interested in cars.

The two of them had been friends ever since she got interested in racing. He was already professional race car driver when she met him. One of Fate's friends introduced him to her after learning that she was interested in racing.

During their first meeting, Michael was very cold with her. But she still begged him to train her for her very first competition. He was very hesitant at first. He didn't really think that a beautiful, smart and rich girl like Fate was fitted to enter the race car world. He believed that she was more suited in the socialite world where she formerly belonged. But she proved him wrong. She showed him her determination and dedication to racing. So she was able to win his admiration, and he finally agreed to train with her. After a month of training with each other, they finally became very close with each other . . . So close that a lot of people mistook their closeness as something more serious.

And they both used this misconception to an advantage. Michael was finally able to fully avoid all the girls that he didn't want to associate with, and Fate was also able to do the same. Since a lot of men were also constantly pursuing her. And she found that having men courting her were more of a distraction than an inspiration. She didn't really want men around her.

So they made each other as an excuse to drive away all the unwanted admirers. The two of them had been together for years. So they were already very at ease with each other, that even physical closeness was nothing to them. They would hold hands or embrace each other, as if it was nothing. Both of them were very comfortable with each other. They both liked the special connection that they shared.

"You really like him huh?" Michael asked seriously as he stared at her.

Fate just nodded.

"I'm not saying that you don't have the right to like him. It's just that . . . we're here to race. I certainly don't want you to get distracted. We have both worked very hard for this competition. I just don't want to see all your hard go to waste all because of a guy you barely know," Michael explained.

Fate smiled. "I know and I understand. And frankly I'm not expecting anything to happen between us. I like him . . . . That's it! I don't think he's really serious about me anyway. He's a famous singer. So I know he's got millions of girls running after him. And besides if he's also interested in me . . . he should have made a move already. So far . . . the only significant thing he has done is ask my name," she said with a laugh. "Do you know how frustrating it is to meet a guy you like at first sight . . . and he doesn't even like you back in return?" she asked as she shook her head.

Michael laughed out loud. "So you've really fallen hard for that guy?" Want me to help?" he asked teasingly.

"But I thought you said that I should just leave him alone . . . So why are you offering to help me now?" Fate asked with a raised eyebrow. She suddenly became confused.

Michael laughed again. "Because like what I've said before . . . I'm not used to seeing you drool over a man. It is too humiliating to see you liking a guy, and then left with just liking him from a distance. And besides, it's not everyday that you actually admit that you like a man. I always thought that you might be a tomboy or something."

"I'm not a tomboy," Fate protested as she suddenly pouted her lips.

Michael laughed again. "Okay . . . okay . . . sorry," he uttered as he embraced her. Then he quickly lifted her up on his shoulder.

"Michael, what are you doing? Put me down!" Fate screamed as she tried to shake herself free from Michael's hold.

"Sssshhh . . . . I'm going to help you win your prince, my dear," he said while trying to control his laugh.

"What? What do you mean? How?" Fate continuously asked.

"Just play along," Michael uttered as he chuckled.

While Fate and Michael were fooling around, the DBSK boys were busy watching.

"Uh-oh! Looks like Fate is already involved with someone," Micky uttered.

"Yes, it really looks like it," Max said sadly.

Then two men from Fate's group suddenly passed by where the DBSK boys were sitting.

"Fate and Michael are playing around again," one of the men said.

"Yes, they sure a perfect couple. Both rich, good-looking, talented and famous . . . truly a match-made in heaven," the other man said.

The DBSK boys heard what the men said. And at that instant, Max's heart ached so hard that he unconsciously grasped his chest.

"Max, are you all right?' Xiah asked worriedly.

Max tried to smile. "Yes, I'm fine," he lied.

Micky, Xiah, U-Know and Jaejoong exchanged glances with each other. They all knew that Max was lying.

Michael was still carrying Fate on his shoulder, when he suddenly said something.

"Hold on Fate . . . ."

"What? Hey, Michael . . . stop already . . . ." Fate shouted again.

Michael laughed again, then he started running round around with Fate still on his shoulder.

"Michael, put me down!" Fate kept on shouting.

But Michael just kept on running round and round, as if doing an exercise. Then he slowly went to where the DBSK boys were sitting. He already knew what to do.

"Michael, I'm very dizzy already. I feel sick. Please put me down," Fate weakly begged. She felt her head was very light, and everything she was seeing was already blurry.

Michael suddenly stopped running in front of the DBSK boys. Then he quickly released Fate.

As soon as Michael placed Fate down on her feet, her dizziness became worse.

"Michael . . . I'm feeling sick," she complained as she touched her head. She then took a step forward, but her whole body was weak. So she instantly slipped.

Fate knew that she was about to fall down on her back. But she felt very dizzy, and she didn't have any strength to stop her fall.

"Fate . . . ." some of the DBSK boys exclaimed in shock.

Fate just closed her eyes, and waited for her body to fall on the ground. Seconds passed, she then realized that someone was holding her. She slowly opened her eyes. And as soon as she opened them, she was faced with the man that her heart was longing for.

"Are you all right? Are you hurt?" Max asked with concern written all over his face.

"I . . .I'm fine . . . Thank you," Fate tried to utter.

Michael who was just watching everything just smiled mischievously. His plan had actually worked.

Max stared at Michael. "You should have been more careful. What if I didn't catch her on time . . . and she hit her head or something?" he angrily said to him.

Michael smiled again. "This guy has guts," he said in his mind.

"She could have been hurt bad . . ." Max added.

"Sorry . . . frankly I was very dizzy as well," Michael defended himself.

Fate looked at Max, then at Michael. "I'm fine. So let's just forget everything," she said as she tried to get up.

Max carefully helped Fate on her feet. But she was still feeling sick. Her whole body swayed as she tried to walk away from Max. Then as she was about to fall again, Max had instinctively pulled her into his arms.

As Max tightly held Fate, they both gazed straight into each other's eyes. Their hearts were beating wildly and pounding so hard that somehow they could both each other's heart beats.

"Max . . ." Fate uttered.

"Fate . . . ." Max uttered as well.

It was as if their whole world had suddenly stopped revolving, and everything was focused on them. Max felt Fate's heart beating next to his. And somehow he felt like she was so perfect in his arms. At that exact moment, he had learned the true meaning of love. . . . He had finally fallen in love. He had also decided that he was going to do everything just to have her. Fate was going to be his destiny.

CHAPTER 4

"Fate . . . Michael, please be ready in a few minutes," the group assistant said.

"Okay," Michael replied, as he carefully arranged his clothes. "Do I look okay?" he asked Fate, who was also busy brushing her hair.

"Yes, you look so handsome in whatever attire you wear," Fate answered with a sweet smile.

"Really? Well I really can't help it. Frankly I'm too handsome to be just a race car driver. I should have been a movie star or something," Michael said jokingly.

Fate laughed. "A movie star? Give me a break. If you became a movie star . . . Then more women will surely get hooked on you . . . And that would mean . . . more women will suffer. So I think it is more appropriate, if you just became hidden in an office. Just like the job your dad is offering you."

"A job in an office? Unbelievable! You know I hate being stuck in an office. That would totally kill me," Michael spoke.

Fate laughed again. "Yeah, I know you're too wild to be kept in an office."

"We're both wild, my dear. That's why you can't keep yourself locked up in an office too," Michael said as a joke.

The DBSK boys just watched and listened as Fate and Michael continued to tease each other. Max tried to make himself busy with other things. He was already very jealous, but he knew he ahd no right to feel that way.

"Okay . . . let's start!"

Everybody was then called near the race cars.

"First, we will be pairing the DBSK boys with the three drivers. Micky and Xiah, both of you will be paired up with Tony Mason, the driver of the yellow race car. Then Jaejoong and U-Know with Michael Smith, the driver of the blue race car. And lastly Max will be with Fate Nakamura, the driver of the red race car," one of the assistants announced.

"Why are we being paired up?" Xiah suddenly asked.

"Each pairing will have their own commercial. So we will be making 3 separate commercials today," the assistant answered.

"Oh, really?" Michael asked with a grin. "I think someone's going to be very happy," he said as he teasingly looked at Fate.

"Hey! Stop with your teasing," Fate said with a pout.

"Okay, just make sure you go easy on the guy. Don't seduce him okay," Michael suddenly whispered to Fate.

"Eh? Michael . . ." Fate uttered as she tried to pinch him.

Michael hurriedly moved away from Fate. "Someone's getting angry . . ." he teased again.

"Please get ready Fate . . . and Max. You will be the first ones to make the commercial," one of the assistants said.

Fate immediately went to where Max was. she then took his hand and pulled him to where her race car was. "Come on," she said with a smile.

Max's heart was pounding very hard. Somehow he couldn't believe that Fate was actually holding his hand.

The other DBSK boys just smiled as they all silently watched Max being pulled away by Fate.

"He's quite lucky . . . The girl is actually more braver than him," Micky commented.

U-Know couldn't help but laugh. "I just hope that everything works out for him."

"Do you really think Fate likes Max? Frankly I think she's just being friendly and sweet," Jaejoong suddenly asked.

"Nah, the girl has a thing for Max too. You can easily tell from the look in Fate's eyes whenever she looks at Max," Micky answered.

"Well, let's wish Max all the luck he can get. Fate is really a very beautiful and nice girl," Xiah added.

As soon as Fate and Max were near her car . . .

"Are you afraid of racing?" she suddenly asked Max.

Max looked at Fate. He was suddenly taken by surprise by her question. "Me? I . . . I . . . really don't know. I haven't done it before . . ." he tried to answer.

Fate smiled. "Well then, how about we go on a joy ride first? So you can actually get a feel of how it feels like to be in a race . . ."

Max didn't know what to say. He just nodded his head in approval.

Fate smiled sweetly at Max. "Wait a minute okay," she then approached the director.

Several minutes passed . . . She returned with a sweet smile on her face.

"The director already agreed to shoot the part where we will be riding on the race car. So . . . are you ready?" Fate asked.

"Yes," Max shyly replied.

"You know you should be more at ease with me," she suddenly uttered. "How can we work with each other more comfortably . . . if you're like that?"

"I . . . I'm sorry . . . It's just that I can't help it. I feel a little bit nervous around you," Max answered with his head lowered.

"A little bit nervous? It's more like you're afraid of me," she said with a laugh.

"No . . . no . . . I'm not afraid of you . . . I'm just nervous because . . . I like you," Max suddenly blurted out. He immediately looked at Fate. He didn't know why he was so careless. He suddenly became afraid of what her reaction might be.

Fate stared at Max seriously. Then slowly . . . a smile appeared on her lips. "Wow! And I thought you were shy," she uttered.

"I . . . I'm sorry. . . It just slipped out . . ." Max tried to apologize.

Fate couldn't help but laugh. "You don't have to apologize. Honestly I'm glad you said it. Because now . . . I'm no longer afraid to tell you something . . .Do you want to know what it is?" she said as she slowly moved closer to him.

Max could feel his heart was beating very fast. "What . . . what is it?" he asked nervously.

Face to face . . . Fate looked deep into Max's eyes. Then she quickly planted a short kiss on Max's cheek. "I like you too, Max," she finally confessed.

Instantly Max's heart started rejoicing. It was like he was in heaven. He couldn't believe what he just heard. . . and especially what just happened. He gently touched the spot where Fate kissed him. It was like he could still feel her warm lips on his face.

"Wohhooo!!! Way to go girl!" Michael cheered after he saw what Fate did. He was very happy for his friend.

The other DBSK boys were all shocked with what they witnessed. But their shock was immediately replaced with happiness. All of them couldn't help but smile and grin. They knew their friend had already won the girl of his dreams.

The other people who saw what Fate did were shocked at first. But then they immediately brushed aside their personal thoughts and continued to concentrate on what they were supposed to do.

"Your friend is quite lucky . . ." Michael said to the other DBSK boys as he suddenly approached them.

"What do you mean?" Xiah asked curiously.

"Well Fate has never shown any interest in a guy before. And this is certainly the first time that she actually kissed a guy intentionally. So this only means that Fate really likes your friend. I know millions of guys all over the world will surely envy your friend, once news about them leaks out," Michael explained.

"Leak out? Oh, I hope not. We don't want any trouble with the press and and the fans . . ." Xiah said worriedly.

Michael couldn't stop himself from laughing. "All of you superstars are all alike, whether actors or singers. All of you are scared of scandals and rumors. Unlike us . . . race car drivers . . . even though we are also popular, we don't really care about news, gossips and rumors. Whatever is written about us, doesn't really affect us at all."

"Well, we're just being careful. Since we're not the only ones who will be affected . . . even the girls we get involved with are affected by whatever news or rumors are written about us," U-Know tried to defend themselves.

Michael looked at U-Know seriously. "I'm sorry, if I offended you guys. But I just want you guys to tell your friend to be serious with Fate. She's been with me for years now. I have been taking care of her, just like a real brother to a sister. I don't want her to get hurt in anyway. And if by chance, your friend doesn't have any intentions of being true to her . . . then tell him to just stop now before Fate falls for him any deeper. Because if even one drop of Fate's tears fall because of him . . . I promise you, I won't let your friend go so easily. I'll make sure that he sheds ten times more tears than what Fate sheds. She may act tough and present herself to be strong . . . but in reality . . . she is like any other woman . . . fragile . . . easily hurt. I don't want her to get hurt in anyway," he said with a serious tone.

The other DBSK boys exchanged glances with each other.

"Max isn't the type who plays around. He's quite serious with Fate. So you don't have anything to be worried about," Micky said.

Michael just nodded his head. "Then we don't have any problem . . . The only thing I want now is for her to be happy."

"Don't worry. . . Max will surely take good care of Fate," Jaejoong said with a smile.

"I really do hope so," Michael uttered as he looked at Max and Fate from afar.

Max was still staring at Fate. Somehow he didn't know what to say after she kissed him. He was feeling like he was in a dream . . . a very sweet and wonderful dream. Somehow he wanted to kiss her . . . on her sweet lips . . . He wanted to experience what it would feel like . . . to kiss a girl that he really liked.

"Are we just going to stand here . . . until the sun sets?" Fate asked with a smile.

"What?" Max asked as he snapped out of his dreaming state.

Fate laughed. "Let's go . . . we can kiss each other again later . . . when we're no longer busy," she said as a tease.

"What?" Max asked with his eyes wide with shock. He was surprised with what Fate had said. It was as if she could read what was on his mind.

Fate giggled. "Oh my! You're so cute . . . Let's go. We have a commercial to finish," she said as she helped Max get into her car.

As Fate and Max sat side by side in the car . . . both their hearts were racing.

"Are you ready Max" she asked as she started the car.

"Yes," he replied as he slowly covered her hand that was on the steering wheel, with his own hand.

Fate stared at Max's hand that held her hand. Then she looked deep into his eyes.

Max smiled. "Do you really think you're the only one who is brave?"

Fate smile as well. "No . . ."

Suddenly Max took Fate's hand and gently squeezed it. "Well let's start this . . . Let's see where this road takes us," he said sweetly.

Fate nodded. "Let's start . . . and just follow where our hearts leads us . . ."

As Fate's car started to move . . . both her and Max's hearts were already finished with racing. . . Both their hearts had already found the right path to each other's hearts.

CHAPTER 5

Fate and Max's commercial was finally finished, and they were already free to do whatever they wanted.

They were quietly sitting beside each other, while watching Micky and Xiah prepare themselves for their own commercial.

"Max . . ." Fate uttered.

"Uhmm . . . What is it?" Max asked quickly.

"About . . . about what you said earlier . . . and what I said as well . . ." Fate started to say.

Max suddenly became serious. "Why? Do you . . . do you want to take back what you said?"

"No, it's not like that. It's just . . . it's just that I'm a little bit concerned that . . . maybe . . . you're not that serious about what you said," Fate said with hesitation.

Max smiled sweetly at Fate. Then he took her hand and gently kissed it. "I like you . . . and I'm serious about you. Are you doubting my sincerity?"

Fate smiled back at him. "Don't you think we're moving too fast? We just met a few days ago . . . and we're already involved with each other."

"What can we do? We're both hooked with each other. We didn't plan any of this. It just happened . . . So we should just go with the flow and follow our hearts," Max said seriously.

"Are you sure you want to be with me, Max? This . . . this relationship we're starting will surely cause some problems for both of us. Are you willing to take the risk?" Fate asked as she looked at him.

"Yes, I'm willing to go through anything . . . as long as I can have the chance to be with you," Max replied.

Fate's heart suddenly skipped a beat. Somehow Max's words were like music to her ears.

Max tightened his hold on Fate's hand. "Just to make everything clear . . . starting today . . . you're officially my girl. . ." he said with love in his eyes.

Fate didn't know what to say. Her heart was dancing with joy. She had never experienced how to be in a relationship before. . . This was her very first time.

She smiled sweetly at Max, then she just nodded. "Starting today . . . you're mine," she uttered with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes.

Max then gently caressed Fate's cheek. "Starting today . . . I'll be yours forever."

Fate laughed. "You know, if people accidentally heard all the things we've been saying, they would think that we're being too dramatic."

Max let out a laugh as well. "You're right. But what can we do? . . . We're just being honest with our feelings."

"Aren't you afraid of what other people might say about us?" Fate asked out of the blue.

"No, why should I be afraid?" Max replied.

"Well we just met each other," Fate uttered.

"Just forget that we just met. Let's just concentrate on what our present situation, that is more important," Max spoke.

"Do you think that your friends will accept me?" she asked nervously.

Max smiled again. "Why shouldn't they? I know they will surely like you."

"Oh I hope so," she uttered.

"Where will you go after the commercials are finished? Would you like to go to our apartment?" Max asked sweetly.

"To your apartment? Sure . . ." she quickly replied.

Max looked at Fate. He was very happy. He then took her hand and gently held it.

Several hours passed . . .

All of the commercials were already finished. And everyone were already getting ready to go home.

"Aaahhh . . . finished at last! I though it was going to last for a few hours more," Xiah exclaimed.

Jaejoong laughed. "Would you believe that I was actually praying while I was in that car? My god! I never imagined that being in a race car could be so frightening. I thought I was going to have a heart attack."

"But even though it was scary . . . it still had its feel of excitement. The thought of being there . . . racing . . . is also very challenging," Micky added.

"But what I'm totally sure is. . . that I am not fit to be in such a field. I don't think my heart can take the pressure of being in an actual race," U-Know uttered.

"But it's quite fun. It's not really scary at all," Fate interrupted.

Both she and Max had already walked up to where the other DBSK boys were sitting.

Xiah, Micky, U-Know and Jaejoong all looked at Fate, then smiled.

"You know . . . the two of you have been holding hands ever since you finished your commercial. You're already being talked about by the whole staff," Micky warned.

Max smiled mischievously. "We know . . ."

The other DBSK boys lightly laughed. "Oh . . . our little boy is really in love," Jaejoong uttered.

"Do you think our manager will object to our relationship?" Max asked worriedly.

"I don't think he has any objections. He's already seen the two of you holding hands . . . So if he had any negative reactions to your relationship, he would have talked to the two of you already," U-Know replied.

"Oh . . . that's a relief," Max said with a smile.

"So . . . are you really a couple now? I mean . . . is your relationship official now?" Xiah asked teasingly.

Fate couldn't help but smile, and Max slightly blushed.

"I think those reactions means a yes," Jaejoong said with a laugh.

"The two of you are really fast," Micky commented as he tried to hide the grin on his face.

"I've invited Fate to come to our apartment . . . Is it okay with you guys?" Max asked his friends.

"Of course," Jaejoong immediately replied.

"We already had dinner, but still early for a midnight snack . . . But anyway, Would you guys like me to cook for you?" Fate asked sweetly.

"You know how to cook?" Max asked, quite surprised.

Fate laughed. "Of course, I know how to cook. I've been living alone for years now. If I didn't know how to cook, I would surely starve to death."

"Yes," Max happily uttered.

Xiah, Micky, Jaejoong and U-Know exchanged glances with one another, then all of them broke down into laughs.

"Max, you're totally unbelievable . . . You're still thinking about food?" Micky asked in disbelief.

Fate laughed as well. "Well . . . I hope I won't disappoint you guys with the foods I am going to prepare. I already heard that Jaejoong is a great cook. I may not be able to match up with him."

"Oh, don't worry about us. We're not that difficult to feed. We're used to eating different kinds of foods . . . especially Max. He eats almost anything . . . as long as it is edible," Micky commented with a laugh.

"Hey, that's unfair," Max uttered.

"Well it is the truth. You're the only one among us who don't have any food preferences. You basically eat anything that is served," Jaejoong added.

Fate tried to hide her laugh. She was finding Max so adorable with the way he was blushing. She then decided to release her hand from Max's hand.

Max immediately stopped talking and looked at Fate, as soon as their hands were separated.

"Why? What's wrong?" he asked worriedly.

Fate smiled. "Nothing's wrong. I just thought that we've been holding hands for a very long time now. And maybe you're tired already . . ."

Max quickly took Fate's hand again and held it tightly. "I'm not tired of holding your hand. . . And I don't think I will ever grow tired of it . . ." he said sweetly.

Xiah couldn't help but smile sweetly. "God! Max you're so sweet! Ants will surely follow the two of you wherever you go," he said as a tease.

"I think millions of fans will be crying if they ever found out that their beloved Max has finally fallen in love," Micky suddenly whispered to Xiah.

Xiah just nodded. "They look so good together. . . quite perfect for each other," he uttered as he continued to look at the happy expression on Max's face.

"We're all ready to go . . ." one of the staff members said to the DBSK boys.

"Okay, thank you very much," U-Know uttered.

"Fate . . . we're already finished. It's time to go," Michael said as he slowly approached Fate and the DBSK boys.

"I'm going to Max's apartment, Michael. You can go ahead. I'll just go to the hotel later . . ." Fate spoke.

Michael looked at Max seriously, then at Fate. "You're going to his apartment? Alone?" he asked with a raised tone.

Fate laughed lightly. "Don't worry. I won't be alone with him. His friends will be there too. So you don't have anything to worry about."

Michael suddenly let out a sigh of relief. "Oh . . . Well, then I'll be going now. Just make sure you don't stay out too late. we still have a scheduled practice and meeting tomorrow."

Fate nodded. "I know."

Michael stared at Max. "Congratulations, you're a very lucky man. Take good care of her."

Max smiled, then nodded his head. "Don't worry. I will surely take good care of her."

"I'll be going now. Bye . . ." Michael uttered as he slowly walked away.

A few minutes passed . . .

"Well, let's go," Max sweetly said to Fate.

"Okay," she replied. "You're hungry already?" she sweetly asked.

Max nodded. "More like starving . . ." he jokingly said.

"Uh-oh! . . . Better prepare yourself Fate. He has a very large appetite. I think you will be very surprised once you find out about his eating habits," Jaejoong warned with a laugh.

Max blushed again. "Hyung, you're embarrassing me."

The other DBSK boys laughed. They were all very happy that Max had finally found his match.

CHAPTER 6

As soon as Fate arrived at the boys' apartment, she immediately went straight to the kitchen. The boys followed her into the kitchen, and they sat down on the table near the kitchen counter.

"I'll prepare our snack now . . . Do you have any special requests? Any specific dish you want to eat?" Fate asked Max and the other boys.

U-Know shook his head. "Anything is fine with us. Just prepare whatever you want," he said with a smile.

Max smiled. "I'll definitely eat anything that you prepare."

Jaejoong laughed. "See . . . Max eats almost anything . . . just as long as it is edible."

"So you don't have to worry about preparing anything special. Max will surely finish any dish served in front of him without any complaints," Xiah added.

"Just make sure that you don't put in so much hot sauce or anything spicy . . . just like what Jaejoong does. My tongue is still aching from the last spicy dish he prepared for us," Micky said with a grin.

"Spicy? You guys don't like spicy foods?" she asked curiously.

U-Know let out a laugh. "Everything that Jaejoong cooks is spicy. So we're sort of afraid of eating spicy foods. Because frankly . . . all the foods that Jaejoong cooks can basically make an elephant jump into cold water. That's how spicy his dishes are . . ." he tried to explain.

"Hey! I never thought that you guys were actually complaining with the dishes I'm preparing," Jaejoong said as if hurt.

"We never complain . . . because we don't have any choice. And we know if we complain, we might end up eating take out foods instead," Xiah said with a laugh.

"And your home cooked meals is still better than take out foods," Micky added with a grin.

"Don't worry hyung. I'm not complaining . . . I just love all the dishes you prepare for us," Max said with a smile.

"Max, you're not complaining because you can eat any dish even if it is mixed with a million spices," Micky teased.

"Hyung, you're too much," Max complained.

Fate giggled. She was totally amused with the way the boys were teasing each other. Somehow she found the boys' closeness quite extraordinary.

Fate lightly laughed. "You guys are just so cute . . . I'll start cooking now. Don't worry. I won't make your tongues hurt with so much spice. . . But I will surely make you guys cry because of the taste," she said with a grin, as she started to gather all the needed ingredients for her dishes.

"Do you want me to help you?" Jaejoong asked Fate with a smile.

Fate smiled back at Jaejoong. "No, thanks. Just sit there and relax. Or better yet . . .why don't you guys just wait in the living room while I'm still cooking. I'll just call you after I'm finished. We can then all eat at the living room . . . while watching a movie. But you can start watching the movie while waiting for me, so you guys won't get bored," she suggested.

"A movie? Hmmm . . . that sounds like fun," Max commented.

"Yes, watching a movie seems the perfect relaxation for all of us," Micky said as well.

"But what are we going to watch?" Jaejoong asked.

"Our manager just brought us some new movies to watch two days ago. I asked him to buy some new cds and he also bought several movies as well," U-Know informed the others.

"That's great. It's settled then. We're all going to watch a movie," Xiah said with a grin.

"Would you like me to keep you company while you're cooking?" Max asked Fate sweetly.

"Max, some people don't want to be bothered whenever they are cooking. So don't bother Fate . . . she needs some peace when cooking," Jaejoong said with a grin.

"Oh . . . all right. I'll just go with the guys then. Are you sure . . . you want to be left alone?" Max asked again.

Fate smiled, then nodded. "Jaejoong is right. I work faster when I'm alone . . ."

"Well, come on Max. Let's leave your princess alone for a few minutes," Micky said with a smile.

The DBSK boys all stood up and went directly to the door.

"Just call us . . . if you need any help," Max said with concern.

Fate lightly laughed. "Don't worry, Max. I won't get eaten by vegetables and pasta," she said teasingly.

The other DBSK boys laughed as well. And they just pulled Max out of the kitchen.

More than half an hour passed . . .

Max just kept on looking back and forth between the TV screen and the door leading to the kitchen.

"What's taking Fate so long to cook?" he asked worriedly. "Maybe I should take a look."

"Nope . . . just sit here," Micky said as he grabbed Max's arm and made him sit closer to him.

"Max, you've gone to the kitchen almost every three minutes. You're the reason why she's taking so long to finish her cooking. You're totally disturbing her," Jaejoong said as he shook his head in disbelief and amusement.

"But hyung . . . I just want to see if she's all right . . . What if she needs my help or something?" Max tried to reason with his friends.

U-Know shook his head and grinned. "Fate will call us if she needs any help. So just sit and enjoy the movie . . ."

Max sighed. It seems he didn't have any choice but to follow his friends.

Several minutes passed . . .

A sweet aroma started to fill the living room . . .

"God! What is that sweet smell?" Micky asked suddenly.

"It smells so delicious," Xiah added.

"So can I go to the kitchen now . . . to see if Fate is finished?" Max asked his friends. Somehow he didn't want to leave Fate alone even for one minute. Being away from her was quite frustrating for him.

"No," Jaejoong replied with a smile. "Just leave her alone while she's cooking . . ."

Max sighed heavily. "But I want to see her already," he complained.

Micky laughed. "She's not going anywhere . . . so just relax. You don't have to act like her bodyguard or something," he teased.

"Our snack is ready . . ." Fate suddenly announced as she entered the living room.

"Finally . . ." Max exclaimed.

Fate curiously stared at Max. "Finally? Did I take such a long time to cook? Are you starving already?" she asked continuously.

"Well . . . I was really waiting for you . . . and not the food . . ." Max replied.

"Whoaah . . . That's a first! Max is actually waiting for a girl and not food," Micky said with a loud laugh.

Jaejoong grinned. "Max is a big boy now . . . He's no longer thinking about food but girls instead," he also teased.

"Do you think we should mark this day on our calendars?" Xiah asked with a maddening smile.

"Let's just post it in a blog or something," U-Know said as he joined in teasing Max.

Max blushed, and shyly looked at Fate. "All of you are embarrassing me," he cried out at the other DBSK boys.

Fate went straight to where Max was sitting. Then she took his hand and smiled at him.

"Come on, help me to get all the dishes out of the kitchen," she said sweetly.

Max smiled as well, then nodded.

As Max and Fate entered the kitchen, the other DBSK boys couldn't help but smile.

They were very happy that Max had found someone like Fate. She was totally sweet and very caring. She was the perfect match for someone like Max.

"Those two are really well-matched," Micky commented.

U-Know nodded. "Max is quite lucky. Fate is such a wonderful girl. We've only known her for a few days but I already feel so comfortable with her."

"Yes, Fate is really special. She's down to earth . . . considering she's rich and famous," Xiah said.

"I hope everything goes well between them," Jaejoong said with concern.

Micky sighed. "I just hope our status as singers and Fate's status as a famous race car driver doesn't clash with each other . . ."

"Somehow I am a bit concerned with our fans. I don't think Max's fans will be kind to Fate. I am a little bit worried that some fans might eventually harrass Fate," U-Know said as he sighed.

The other DBSK boys all exchanged glances with one another. They all knew being a member of a famous boy band was really very hard, not only on the physical aspect but on the emotional one as well. All of them knew having a relationship was very hard. They also knew that many obstacles were going to appear once they started a relationship with a girl. So as much as possible they avoided being involved with someone. They knew it wasn't only going to be hard on them, but mostly on the girl as well.

"I wish everything will be all right between Max and Fate. It would surely hurt Max if something suddenly happens to him and Fate. He really likes her. . ." Micky said with concern.

"Yes, we all know that Max is quite serious with her. He hasn't been this courageous before. He actually surprised me. He proved to me that he's no longer the little boy that we all keep on protecting and pampering," U-Know said again.

"Let's just hope that no news comes out about their relationship. As long as they keep a low profile, and no one knows about them being involved with each other . . . then they are basically safe," Xiah said.

Micky sighed. "Low profile? Are you kidding? They have already shown their relationship to the entire staff today. It would be a miracle if no news about them comes out by tomorrow morning," Jaejoong uttered.

"Well there's nothing we can do but wait. Let's just keep our fingers crossed. I really hope everything goes smoothly for Max and Fate," Micky said.

The other DBSK boys nodded. All of them were wishing very hard that nothing comes between Max and Fate, but somehow they knew it was impossible. As they kept on wishing, their hearts were being filled with fear. Somehow they already knew that something was going to happen . . . something was coming . . . or someone . . .

CHAPTER 7

"Max! Max! Wake up," Xiah said in quite a rush. He continuously shook Max's shoulder to get him out of bed.

Max slowly opened his eyes. "What's wrong hyung?" he asked Xiah with a confused expression on his face.

"Get up. We have something to show you. It's quite serious. So hurry," U-Know suddenly said. He was also standing next to Xiah.

Max stared at Xiah and U-Know with curiosity on his face. He carefully got up and stretched his arms. He was still very sleepy. He was already planning to sleep until after lunch time since they didn't have anything to do that day. So he was totally confused on what was happening.

"Is he up yet?" Jaejoong asked as he entered the room.

"Yes, he is," Xiah replied.

"Get him into the living room. I think you guys need to see the news," Jaejoong said with a worried look on his face.

"What?" U-Know asked with a more confused look that quickly appeared on his face.

U-Know, Xiah and Max hurriedly went to the living room with their hearts racing with fear.

In the living room, Micky was already quietly watching the morning news. He looked at Max with mixed expressions on his face. "Max . . ." he uttered.

"This news really made such a big commotion last night on the internet. It seems several pictures were posted on different sites. The controversial pictures showed Max Changmin of the very famous boyband Dong Bang Shin Ki, holding hands with a girl. . . But the most revealing picture that really caused an uproar amongst fans was the picture showing the said girl kissing Max. Our sources have confirmed that the girl in the picture is race car driver Fate Nakamura. She is currently in Japan to attend a racing competition. It is also said that the two met because the said event. It seems that the DBSK boys are the ones who sung the song for the commercial of the race car competition. And the pictures that were leaked out were actually taken during the making of the commercial yesterday," the female host of the show started to say.

Max continued to stare at the TV screen with shock and fear in his eyes. He had already become very pale and he somehow had lost all his strength. He felt very weak that he just fell down on the couch near him.

The other DBSK boys looked at their friend. They were all very concerned with what was happening. They didn't want Max to face any problems.

"We have already contacted SM Entertainment and they have already made an official statement regarding this matter. It seems that the supposedly relationship between Max Changmin and Fate Nakamura is real. . . So for all the fans out there . . . this is official, Max Changmin and Fate Nakamura are a couple now. I know a lot of girls will be crying today. But let's just wish them all the luck with their new relationship. I really think that they look so good together. . . A perfect match to be exact," the female host said with a light laugh. "Anyway we will try to get Max and Fate on the show . . . so we can personally interview them . . . if their schedules permits. So just continue to wait for our other upcoming reports regarding this new cute couple. Thank you so much for watching . . . ."

Micky quickly turned off the TV. Then they all faced Max who was obviously very much confused on what to do.

"Max . . ." U-Know uttered with concern.

"Hyung . . . what should I do?" Max asked the other DBSK boys.

Micky, Xiah, Jaejoong and U-Know exchanged glances with each other. They didn't know what to do either.

"Frankly . . . we don't know what to do either," U-Know replied as he sat down beside Max.

"But what really makes me worried is . . . why did our company admit Max's relationship with Fate. I find it to be really weird," Micky said with a worried look on his face.

"I guess we're both thinking about the same thing. Do you think President Lee is planning something?" Jaejoong asked the other boys.

"Planning something? What kind of thing . . . are you thinking about?" Max asked with fear in his eyes.

"I just think that everything that is happening is really weird. How come pictures in the set yesterday were leaked out? It only means that one of the staff members were the ones who released it. There was no way that a fan could have taken those pictures," Micky said.

U-Know nodded his head in agreement. "Yes, maybe one of the staff took pictures of Max and Fate. But the question is . . . why post the pictures? What do they get from doing it?"

Max ran his fingers through his hair in total confusion. He was totally lost on what to do next.

"Sorry Max, but I have a bad feeling about all of this. I think you should prepare yourself already for the other effects that this news will bring. And I am telling you . . . it won't be good," Micky warned Max.

Max sighed heavily. "Do you think Fate already knows about this?"

"It's already passed 9 in the morning. She's supposed to be in a meeting right?" Jaejoong asked back.

Max felt like his head going to explode. He suddenly leaned on the couch and just closed his eyes. "I am so embarrassed . . . What will Fate think of me now? She might actually think that I'm just using her for publicity," he said with a trembling voice.

"Don't think like that . . . I know Fate will understand what is happening. It isn't our fault that those pictures were leaked out. She's also famous . . . So she knows all about the scandals and gossips that are spread around almost everyday on the news," Xiah tried to comfort Max.

"I . . . I . . . I want to call her but . . . what am I supposed to say?" Max said.

"Just call her and ask her how she is doing. . ." Jaejoong suggested.

"But . . ." Max said with hesitation.

"Call her . . ." Micky said with a more firm tone.

Max stared at his friends . . . then after a few minutes, just nodded his head.

In Fate's hotel room . . .

"What do you plan to do now?" Michael asked Fate as she just turned off the TV.

"Well . . . what am I supposed to do?" she asked back.

Michael sighed. "I think what you got yourself into . . . is really a very difficult situation. Do you know that there are already several reporters outside the hotel waiting for you? And aside from that, I already spotted several groups of young girls waiting outside the hotel as well. And I wouldn't be surprised, if they are waiting for you too. I think you better prepare yourself."

"I'm not regretting anything . . . if that is what you're waiting for me to say . . ." she said as she slowly put on her coat.

"And where do you think you are going?" Michael asked worriedly.

"Out," she simply replied.

"Out? Where? You can't go out now . . . Just let a day pass . . . You can go out tomorrow," Michael said firmly.

Fate smiled at her friend. "Michael, we have a meeting today right. I can't possibly miss it."

Michael sighed again. "You can just skip the meeting for today. It might be bad for you to go out. I'll just explain everything to the organizers and the other staff members."

"No, I am going to the meeting . . . and that is final," she said with firmness in her voice.

"But . . ." Michael was about to say something.

"Don't worry . . . Everything will be all right," Fate said with a light laugh. "You're worrying too much."

Michael shook his head in total disbelief with the way Fate was acting. Somehow she didn't care about what was going to happen to her.

Suddenly . . . Fate's phone rang . . . She quickly answered it and was surprised to hear who was calling her.

"Max . . ." she uttered with delight.

"How are you? Are you okay?" Max asked with a trembling voice.

Fate immediately noticed the change in Max's voice.

"What's wrong Max? What's wrong with you?" she asked with concern.

"Have you watched the news? Did you go online today?" he asked worriedly.

Fate laughed lightly. "Is that the reason why you're acting so gloomy? . . . Yes, I have watched the news and I have also read all the news on the internet . . . You don't have worry . . . I already expected this kind of thing to happen," she said with a soft voice.

Max sighed. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry for what?" she asked.

"Sorry for causing such a commotion . . . Sorry for all the trouble," he replied.

"Max, you don't have to say sorry. I understand . . . I already knew that things like this was bound to happen once I got involved with you. I really like you . . . I've never felt such a strong attraction to a guy before. That's why I decided to be true to myself and let out my real feelings for you. So I don't care about all the news that is scattering all over the internet or on TV. . . as long as I am happy with you. I don't care about anything else," Fate said bravely.

Max felt like his heart was going dancing in the clouds. He couldn't explain the happiness he was feeling.

"Fate . . ." he uttered.

"Uhmmm?" she asked.

"Thank you . . . for understanding," he said shyly.

Fate couldn't help but smile. "I have to go on a meeting now, Max. I'll call you later okay?"

"Oh . . . sure. Take care of yourself," he said with a sweet voice.

"Take care of yourself too," she replied, as she closed her phone.

Somehow something was running in Fate's mind that she just kept staring blankly infront of her for several minutes after she finished her conversation with Max.

"Fate? Fate . . . Are you all right?" Michael asked as he gently tapped her shoulder.

Instantly Fate snapped out of what she was thinking, and smiled at Michael.

"Let's go . . . We might end up being late, if we don't hurry," she said with a fake smile.

Michael just stared closely at his friend. He knew that something was bothering Fate . . . but he just decided to leave her alone.

Michael and Fate easily got into the new sports car that he had rented so to avoid the people that were after Fate. He figured that those people may already know what both their cars look like. So to avoid being tracked, he had ordered a new car that they can use.

He carefully drove the car out of the parking area of the hotel . . . The car's windows were all tinted. So they were safe from being recognized.

As their car passed by the groups of girls waiting outside the hotel . . . Fate curiously read the messages written on the banners the girls were holding . . . Her heart immediately ached and somehow she felt that it was thrown into the deepest part of the ocean.

"Fate you're a bitch. You just seduced him. You don't deserve Max. You should just leave him alone. Just go back where you came from. You're not wanted here. Leave bitch!"

Fate quickly turned her face to look at Michael. He was staring at her with concern in his eyes. She tried to smile at him, then just silently lowered her head. She thought she was strong to face anything . . . but she was wrong.

CHAPTER 8

Michael and Fate entered the hotel where the meeting for the competition was being held with worry and fear. They both knew that the situation regarding Fate's relationship with Max will be an issue in the meeting.

As soon as they entered the room, they were immediately greeted with worried and angry looks on the sponsors' faces, and the other drivers as well.

"So Fate you have finally arrived," one of the drivers from the other group said with sarcasm.

"Fate and Michael, please sit down," one of the sponsors said with a serious look on his face.

Fate looked at Michael, as if asking him to help her. Michael took Fate's hand and they both sat down side by side. Michael knew that she was scared.

"So what can you say for yourself Fate? You have really made such a commotion with your supposed relationship with Max Changmin of DBSK. What we want to know is . . . if it is true," another man from the sponsors side asked.

Fate looked at Michael first, then she stood up bravely. "I'm sorry for making such a big issue. But I just want to make it clear that my relationship with Max doesn't have any connection with my being a race car driver. So I don't see any reason for all of you to make such a big commotion about it."

Michael couldn't help but smile. He knew Fate was really very brave and was such a straight forward girl. It was one of Fate's traits that he just found to be quite admirable. He hasn't met a girl that can be more frank that Fate. She was totally honest with everything.

"Do you know what you are saying young lady?" one of the old men on the sponsors side asked with a raised voice.

Fate took in a deep breath. "I am sorry if I sound too sarcastic or impolite. But I am a race car driver. My personal life isn't in anyway connected with my profession. Yes, I am involved with Max Changmin. But I don't see anything wrong with it."

"You're really involved with that member of that boy band?" the old man who had asked before questioned again.

Fate nodded her head. "Yes."

"But you have only arrived in Japan a few days ago. How can you possibly develop a relationship with someone you just met?" another man from the sponsors' side asked.

"I'm sorry . . . but do I really have to answer that question? I don't see the connection of my personal life with my career life. If you want . . . I am willing to drop out of the competition so that all the issues will stop," Fate said as she looked straight at the sponsors of the race.

The people in Michael and Fate's team were all nervous. They didn't want Fate to drop out of the competition. They had all worked hard for that contest. And they all knew that Fate had worked for months just to prepare. They didn't want all Fate's hard work to go to waste for just a simple matter.

"I think this is going to be bad," one of the mechanics from Fate's team whispered to another mechanic.

Everyone in Fate and Michael's team knew about Fate's character. She was really a very sweet person. But she was also known to the racing world as one of the toughest and most frank of all the drivers. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind. She was always honest about everything that she felt whether it be bad or good. They all knew that she was very serious with her relationship with Max because she was willing to trade her work with it. . . It was something she hasn't done even once.

"She's really serious with that guy huh?" one of the helpers in Michael and Fate's team uttered.

"This is the first time that she's really willing to trade her work for a guy. She must really be in love with that guy," another man from Fate and Michael's team said as he shook his head in disbelief.

"I'm sorry . . . I will personally make an announcement to the press that I am withdrawing from the race . . .if that is what you want," Fate said bravely.

"If you back out from the race . . . then I am dropping out as well," Michael said seriously.

"Me too," another driver with golden hair said. "The only reason why I joined this competition is because I want to compete with you Fate. So if you're not going to race, I might as well not join too. It will just be a waste of time."

"I am quitting too if Fate quits," another driver from another team shouted.

"I am dropping out too. I don't see the reason why you're all questioning Fate about her love life. It is like intruding in our personal lives. You don't have any right to do that," another fellow driver said seriously.

More than half of the racers in the competition suddenly announced that they were all quitting if Fate was dropped from the competition.

All the sponsors looked at each other. They were all very nervous. Somehow they didn't want Fate to drop out as well. They knew she was one of the most popular racers in the competition. And if she was to back out now would only cause more problems for them. Fate had a large group of followers and supporters. She was also one of the most well-funded and most influential racers in the competition. Messing around with her was like messing around with her father who was very influential in the business industry of almost all of the countries in Asia.

"You don't have to quit. We were just asking . . . because we were a little concerned. But just like what you said . . . your personal life is not related to your professional life. So we don't have any right to intrude. I'm sorry for making you feel uneasy. I hope you can reconsider your decision again. We certainly don't want you to drop out from the competition for such a small misunderstanding," the main sponsor said carefully.

Fate looked at Michael, and then at the other members of their team.

Michael nodded his head, as if saying to Fate that she should just accept what the sponsors were saying.

"I'm sorry too . . . I hope I didn't sound to be so sarcastic or ungrateful," Fate said softly.

"All right . . . Let's just close that topic. No one is dropping out of the competition. Let's move on to the real reason why we are having a meeting today. Please Fate sit down. Let's just forget what had happened. I hope you will stay and race in our competition," a man from the sponsors' side said with a smile.

Fate nodded her head and smiled. Then she sat down beside Michael again.

"Well what is the real reason why you're all suddenly calling for a meeting?" one of the racers asked out loud.

"We just want to make an important announcement. We will be having a little get together party for all the drivers and their team members two days from now. We just want to make sure that all of you will attend the said event since the party will be aired live on TV. It is sort of a promotion for the race. Hope all of you will try to attend," an old man from the sponsors' side said with a smile.

"Can we bring along our dates?" one of the drivers asked.

"Sure. You can bring along anyone you want. It will be dinner and party all in one," one of the men from the sponsors answered.

"Two days from now? I better prepare . . . I need to get a date," Michael uttered with a light laugh.

Fate suddenly giggled. She had already forgotten all the worries she was feeling just a few minutes before. "You don't have to worry. I know you just have to wink and you will instantly get a date," she jokingly said.

"Talk about having a date . . . Do you think your boyfriend can come to our party? Is he allowed to go?" Michael asked.

Fate smiled. "Frankly . . . I don't know. Maybe we can just pair up again . . . just like old times."

Michael let out a sigh. "That's the problem with having a famous boyfriend. You can't easily get him to take you around just like ordinary guys do."

"Don't worry. I'm not complaining. And besides I already understood where our relationship stands even before we started it. I understand his situation," Fate said seriously.

Michael stared at Fate. He admired everything about her. She was truly a remarkable woman . . . one in a million. Max was truly very lucky to have her.

"You better call him and just ask him anyway. It doesn't hurt to ask," Michael said with a smile.

Fate nodded. "Yes, I will call him later."

An hour after the meeting . . .

Fate was already in her room. She was standing on the balcony and was looking at the other nearby buildings. Her phone suddenly rang and she hurriedly answered it.

"Fate," Max said sweetly.

"Max, how are you? How is your day?" Fate asked while smiling.

"I should be the one asking you that . . . I already heard that some of my fans went to your hotel and . . ." somehow Max couldn't continue what he wanted to say. He was feeling too embarrassed.

"It's all right Max. It's not your fault. I understand. And besides your fans didn't do anything wrong. They just voiced out what they wanted to say. They're being honest. And being honest isn't wrong. So you don't have to worry about me," Fate said slowly.

"Are you sure . . . you're okay? Aren't you upset . . . even one bit?" Max asked again.

"No . . . I'm fine. How about you? Did your manager or your company have anything to say about us?" Fate asked with concern.

"No, they're totally fine with our relationship," Max answered.

"Thank God, I was really worried on your part. I thought our relationship was going to cause problems on your part," Fate said with a sigh of relief.

"Fate . . ." Max uttered.

"Hmmm? What is it?" she asked.

"Can I see you? I mean . . . do you think we can meet up so we can see each other," Max said with a serious tone.

"Well, aren't you busy? Don't you have a schedule today?" Fate suddenly asked with concern.

"Honestly, I still have several things to attend to . . . But I am really missing you. . . And I really want to see you," Max said with a low voice.

Fate couldn't help but smile with what Max said. "You're really too sweet. How about I go to you now? I don't have any schedule for today. Where are you?"

"I am in a TV station right now. Are you sure you're allowed to see me?" Max asked with worry.

"Of course. Don't worry. I will ask Michael to come with me. So I can have someone to drive once your fans ran after me," Fate said with a laugh.

"Sorry," Max uttered.

"Sorry for what?" she asked as if confused.

"Sorry that my fans are causing you trouble," Max said apologetically.

"Don't worry. Your fans are much nicer compared with my admirers . . . believe me. Good thing that Norman isn't here yet. He can really make your head hurt once you meet him," Fate said with a laugh again.

"Norman? Who is he?" Max asked curiously.

"Norman Horton is one of my suitors. He has been courting me for more than two years now. I know once he learns about us. He will surely make your life a living hell," Fate answered with a laugh.

"Really? He's been courting you for two years?" Max asked with a hint of jealousy in his voice.

"Yes, frankly . . . he's quite cute and nice too. But the only problem is I really don't feel anything for him. That's why I have been continuously telling him to find another girl for the last two years. But he's too stubborn. He just keeps on courting over and over again," she said softly.

"Norman . . . what does he do? I mean what kind of work does he do," Max asked.

"He's a businessman. His father is my father's best friend. He just took over his family's business a few months ago. That's why he hasn't been around me for the last few months . . . He said he's too busy. But he still calls me almost everyday," Fate said.

"He calls you everyday? Has he called you today?" Max asked with jealousy filling his entire soul.

"Nope, he only calls me at night," Fate replied.

"Haven't you told him that you're already involved with someone?" Max asked seriously.

"I haven't had the chance to tell him. He hasn't called for me two days now. Maybe he's really busy," Fate answered.

"Oh . . ." Max said with a sigh of relief. "Just make sure that you tell him that you already have a boyfriend . . . maybe that will stop him from courting you."

"Don't worry . . . I'll make sure to tell him . . . Why? Are you jealous?" Fate teased.

Max became silent for a few seconds. "Yes, quite jealous to be exact," he seriously answered.

Somehow Fate's heart jumped with joy. "Max . . ."

"Yes?" he asked.

"I really miss you too. I want to see you and your beautiful eyes," she said lovingly.

"I miss you too. I want to see you as well," Max replied.

"I'll ask Michael to go with me. Where are you exactly? Just give me the address. And I'll try to be there in thirty minutes okay?" she asked sweetly.

"All right. See you after thirty minutes then. . . Take care of your self okay . . ." Max said lovingly.

"Bye . . ." she uttered.

"Bye . . . See you. . ." Max uttered back.

As Fate slowly closed her phone, her heart was like racing. It was beating so fast that she couldn't help but smile. She was already sure . . . She was really in love. . . She was finally in love . . . with Max.

CHAPTER 9

As soon as Fate finished arranging her things, she immediately went out of her room to look for Michael.

"You want to go out? Are you serious? You already know how hard it was for us to go out of this hotel without being noticed and it was also very hard to get in . . . And now you're telling me that you want to go out?," Michael asked in disbelief.

"Yes, I want to go out. I promised Max that I'll go and see him," Fate replied.

Michael shook his head in total disapproval. "I don't think it would be safe for you to go out. A lot of Max's fans are still angry with you. I think you should lie low for a while. You can't be seen in public with him. It would totally cause more trouble for both of you."

"But Michael . . . I want to see him," Fate protested.

"You can see him some other day. But today . . . I'm confining you in your room. You're not allowed to go out. It is for your own safety Fate. So please try and understand. Max's fans are still upset and may unintentionally hurt you. It is better to be careful than sorry in the end," Michael tried to reason with Fate.

Fate stared at Michael, then she placed a pitiful look on her face.

"Aren't you feeling sorry for me? Look at me. I look so pitiful that even angels will cry once they see me," Fate uttered as she tried not to laugh.

Michael stared at Fate. Somehow he couldn't stop himself from laughing out loud.

"You? Look pitiful? Sorry dear, but you will never look pitiful . . . even one bit. You're the kind of person that will never look ugly or pitiful in someone's eyes. Your image as a whole is almost perfect except for one thing . . ." Michael said with a naughty smile.

"And what is that one thing you're referring to?" Fate asked curiously.

"You're . . . too stubborn. Pretty and rich girls like you should be obedient and well-behave," Michael replied.

"What? Are you looking for trouble?" Fate asked with a raised tone.

Michael laughed again. "No, I'm not looking for trouble. It's just that . . . you look so cute whenever you're angry," he said as a tease.

Fate suddenly pouted. "If you don't want to go with me . . . I can go out alone," she said with stubbornness.

"Hey, you can't go without me," Michael said with panic.

"You don't have to go with me. I can go out without you," Fate said as if angry.

Michael looked at Fate. He knew she was already upset. He couldn't help but smile. He just loved teasing Fate. He loved the way she would start acting like a child. He found this quality of hers to be so adorable and irresistible. Somehow she was like a small child that you would want to take care of.

"Wait here. I'll look for a car that we can use. We can't use the same car twice," Michael uttered seriously.

Fate immediately smiled sweetly at Michael. "Thanks."

Michael gave her a quick glance before heading out of the room. "You know I will always be willing to help you."

An hour passed . . .

Michael carefully entered the TV station with Fate right beside him. He had already talked with the head of the station and they were easily permitted to enter, in exchange, he was asked to do a one on one interview with one of the reporters of the TV station.

Even though he didn't want to be interviewed, he couldn't help but agree since it was the only way for Fate to see Max. And he really wanted to help Fate in any way he can.

"Do you know where they are?" Fate asked Michael as they started to walk around the station.

"Yes," Michael replied. "Just follow me."

Some of the staff members in the station were surprised and were already staring at Michael and Fate with wide eyes.

"Hey, isn't that Fate Nakamura and Michael Smith?" a woman asked another woman.

"What are they doing here?" a man asked another woman standing next to him.

"Maybe they are here to do an interview," a woman suggested.

"Michael," Fate uttered. She was very conscious of the curious stares that all the people in the station were giving them.

"Here's their room," Michael uttered. "Hurry, go inside," he said as he led her into the room.

Max and the other DBSK members who were patiently waiting for their next interview were all surprised as Fate and Michael entered the room.

"Fate," Max uttered happily.

"Max," she said with a sweet smile on her lips.

"I thought you wouldn't be able to come," Max said with a low voice.

Fate quickly walked towards Max. Then she sat down next to him. "I told you I would go to you right? I always fulfill whatever I say."

"How did you guys get into the station?" Micky asked curiously.

"I talked with the station head. He had been asking me for an interview ever since I arrived in Japan, but I just kept on rejecting him. But since Fate wanted to see Max, I agreed to finally have the interview that he wanted, in exchange, that we were allowed to enter and see you guys," Michael explained.

"Wow, you're really something. Thank you for helping us out," Max said to Michael.

"How long will you guys be here?" Michael suddenly asked.

"We still have an interview to finish in about 30 minutes. Then after that we're free for the day," U-Know answered. "Why?"

"Well I have to go and finish the interview I promised. I think it will only take about 15 to 20 minutes. Is it okay if Fate stays here with you guys while I do my interview?" Michael asked.

"Sure, don't worry. I'll be with her," Max replied with a smile.

Michael nodded his head. "Okay, I'll go now. Don't let her go out of this room. I'll try to finish everything as soon as possible."

"Sure," Max replied.

Michael quickly left the room.

Max stared at Fate. Somehow he couldn't explain the happiness that he was feeling. He was so happy that Fate was right beside him.

"How are you Max?" Fate asked as she stared back at him.

"I should be the one asking you that question," Max said with a smile.

"I'm fine. A little tired, but still able to cope I guess," Fate answered.

"Tired?" Max asked with concern written all over his face.

Fate couldn't help but giggle after seeing the expression on Max's face.

"Don't worry . . . I'm not that tired. Well . . . not anymore . . . after seeing you . . . somehow I feel so renewed again," Fate uttered as she placed her head on Max's shoulder.

The other DBSK boys in the room who were watching and listening to Max and Fate suddenly felt embarrassed. Somehow they felt like they were intruding into such a personal moment.

Micky and Xiah exchanged glances with each other. Both of them had big smiles on their faces.

Jaejoong gave Fate a quick glance again before he quickly faced the other DBSK members.

"Come on, let's go out. We still have 30 minutes before the next interview. We can go and have a look around the station," Jaejoong said to the other DBSK members.

Xiah couldn't stop himself from smiling like crazy. "Yes, let's go . . . and leave those two love birds alone even for a few minutes."

U-Know gave Max a quick glance and then smiled as well. "Let's go . . . I need something to drink."

Micky stood up and went straight to the door. "Max, Fate, we're going out for a while. Max . . . be a good boy okay. Don't bite . . ." he said as he started laughing uncontrollably.

Xiah, U-Know and Jaejoong started to laugh as well. They even laughed harder after seeing Max's face turn totally red.

"Hyung . . ." Max uttered.

Fate started to giggle and laugh uncontrollably as well. She found Max to be so irresistible with his innocent and boyish ways.

As soon as the other DBSK boys left the room . . .

Max stared at Fate with a serious expression on his face.

"Are you really okay?" he asked with a concern in his eyes.

"Of course, I'm okay. Why do you ask?" she asked back.

"I mean . . . are you really okay with the way my fans are treating you?" Max asked with a low voice.

Fate smiled. "I know it isn't your fault. I am not complaining . . . I already anticipated this kind of things even before we started to get serious with each other," she answered.

Max gently took Fate into his arms. He lovingly embraced her. "I'm sorry. I wish . . . things didn't have to be so complicated like this."

Fate slowly returned Max’s embrace. "It's okay. I understand."

Max sighed. "Please be patient with me. . . Please don't leave me."

Fate stared at Max. "Why are you suddenly saying that? Why? What makes you think that I will leave you?"

"Nothing . . . It's just that I am a bit scared that you might suddenly grow tired of our situation. I know having me as a boyfriend is quite difficult for you," he answered.

Fate placed her head on Max's chest. "I won't grow tired of being with you. This is the first time that I felt such a strong attraction for a guy. I admit . . . I am still confused with a lot of things concerning handling a relationship. But believe me when I say . . . my feelings for you are real. I am already sure of it. So you don't have anything to be worried about. I like you Max . . . and that is the way it will stay," Fate said frankly.

"I like you too Fate . . . with all my heart," Max said with the sweetest voice.

Fate slowly closed her eyes. Just being near Max was already bringing her such a comforting feeling. How she wished that they could stay together forever . . . But her heart was already fearing something . . . She knew nothing can last forever . . .

11 Re: [FIC] A RACE TO MY HEART on 19th July 2009, 12:45 am

CHAPTER 10

Two days passed . . . . Day of the party . . . It was already passed 5pm.

Max was nervously arranging the clothes he was going to wear to the party.

Jaejoong couldn't help but smile as he kept on watching Max as he continuously checked his things over and over again.

"Hey, relax. You're not going to a trial or something. No one is going to hang you. So stop walking around nervously. You're making me sick," Jaejoong said with a smile.

"Sorry, hyung. But I really can't help it. I feel so nervous. It's like my heart is constantly beating very fast. Do you really think my clothes are all right? I don't even know what Fate is going to wear. Shouldn't our clothes sort of be color coordinated or something? Do you think I should call her to . . . ask her what she is going to wear?" Max continuously asked.

Jaejoong lightly laughed. "Don't disturb her. She's already very busy. Don't you remember she's supposed to attend a fan meeting before she goes to the party? I think that event is supposed to be aired live. Why don't we watch it?"

Max nodded his head. "Yes, I totally forgot about that fan meeting. We still have an hour before we prepare for the party. Let's just watch Fate and the other drivers on TV. Maybe that can help ease some of my nervousness," Max uttered.

As soon as Max and Jaejoong entered the living room . . . .

"Max, I think you should see this," Micky said as he signaled Max to look at the TV.

Max quickly sat down beside Micky, and focused his attention on the TV monitor in front of him.

A female reporter was currently reporting live on the exact location where the fan meeting was being held.

"As you can see this long line of people have been patiently waiting for more than 3 hours just to have the chance to personally greet and have an autograph or picture of the famous female race car driver Fate Nakamura. Among all the participants in the race, Fate is the only female driver and currently the most talked about, both in the sports and entertainment world.

As of now, the line for the fans of Fate Nakamura have been closed. More than half of the drivers in the race have already left the fan meeting, and only a few are still left signing autographs or taking pictures with their fans.

Fate Nakamura and Michael Smith are currently trying to finish everything in a hurry. They only have an hour left before the party. And they still have to go back to their hotel rooms and prepare themselves.

Based on what I can see here, Fate and Michael both have so many fans still waiting in line. I really don't think they can finish in time for the party.

I am now going to a van near the stage where Fate and Michael are signing autographs. Some of the staff members have told me that I will be shocked with the number of bouquets and gifts that Fate received from her fans. They said that all the gifts are immediately placed in the van.

I am now going to see for myself if what they are saying is true."

Several minutes passed . . .

The camera suddenly focused on the tons of bouquets and wrapped gifts inside the van.

"Wow . . . That's really a lot of gifts! I guess she's really very popular like a real superstar. And speaking of superstar, a lot of people are already asking who Fate's partner for the party will be. All of us already know about her supposed relationship with DBSK member Max Changmin. But a lot of people are still skeptical about this and are still hesitant to believe this news. Some people are still thinking that it is just a publicity stunt. And they all say that they won't believe it unless they see it for themselves.

Now the questions people are asking are . . . 'Will Fate and Max finally make their relationship official in the party tonight? Or will they continue to hide it just like what most artists do?’

A reliable source told me that Fate's most well known admirer and suitor, Norman Horton had just arrived in Japan an hour ago. This certainly makes things a lot more interesting, don't you think?

Everyone is already asking who will be Fate's partner for the party. . . Will it be her long time partner and friend Michael Smith, or millionaire businessman Norman Horton . . . or the famous DBSK member Max Changmin? . . .

I am already very excited to know the answer. Fate is really such a lucky girl. She's already got everything. She's beautiful, smart, rich, famous and have so many irresistible men linked to her.

I know a lot of girls out there are already very envious, and are already wishing that they could take her place.

I, for one, would certainly trade places with her anytime," the female reporter said as she started to giggle and laugh both at the same time.

Then someone suddenly gave the reporter a piece of paper.

"Oh . . . someone just informed me that Norman Horton had just arrived here in the fan meeting. It seems he's already asking Fate to go with him. Come on, let's go and see . . ."

The female reporter with the camera man quickly walked to the place where Fate was still patiently signing autographs with fans.

"Fate is still here . . . But where is Norman?" the female reporter asked the camera man.

Then a man suddenly walked up to Fate and whispered something to her. Fate suddenly laughed and nodded her head, as if agreeing with what the man had said.

The man was quite good looking, 6'2" tall, blond hair, blue eyes, with a well-built body and was wearing an obviously very expensive set of clothes.

Max's heart immediately sank down after finally seeing Norman for the first time. He couldn't deny the fact that he was a better man than him in all aspects.

Jaejoong saw the expression on Max's face. "Max, are you all right?" he asked with concern.

Max looked back at Jaejoong with fear in his eyes. "Hyung," was all that he could utter.

Xiah quickly closed the TV. "Hey Max . . . don't be like that. Don't tell me that you're scared of that guy," he said as a joke.

"But . . ." Max tried to utter.

"Don't worry, Max. He's nothing compared with you. That's why Fate chose you remember?" Micky tried to boost Max's self confidence.

Max tried to smile. But his heart was sort of aching after seeing the way Fate smiled at Norman. He was jealous. He couldn't help himself. But he was very jealous. Somehow he felt like he wanted to fly to where Fate was at that exact moment. And take her away instantly to a place where he could lock her up, and he would be the only who can see her and touch her.

Max ran his fingers through his hair in total frustration.

Micky looked at the other DBSK members. All of them exchanged glances with one another. They all knew that Max was really upset. They seldom see him running his fingers through his hair except on occasions that he is really mad or upset.

Jaejoong quickly pulled Max's hand. "Come on . . . Let's prepare early. Don't think about that guy. Don't you dare spoil such a wonderful night all because of a small matter," he said with a smile.

Max stared at Jaejoong. Somehow what he said made him think again. His friend was totally right, he thought. He needed to show Fate that she made the right decision in choosing him over Norman. He needed to control his emotions.

Max let out a long sigh. Then he quickly stood up. "Don't worry, hyung. I am going to show Fate that she made the right decision in choosing me. I will certainly make this night a very memorable night for her," he said with unexplainable warmth in his eyes.

Jaejoong smiled back at Max. "That's good. Better prepare yourself now. We will leave early."

Max nodded his head and hurriedly went to his room.

As soon as Max left . . .

"Hope that guy doesn't interfere with Max and Fate," Xiah commented instantly.

"I doubt it. By the way he was looking at Fate . . . I don't think he will easily give up, even if he knows that Fate is already involved with someone else," Micky uttered.

"I smell trouble for our friend. Better make him prepared for the storm," U-Know uttered.

"Hey! You guys, stop being so negative. Everything will be all right. We should be supporting Max, and not saying things like that," Jaejoong said with a raised tone.

"Sorry . . . just couldn't help it. We all know that Fate and Max are really two different worlds apart. And that sooner or later . . . their worlds will certainly crash with one another," Micky said as he slowly shook his head.

"Everything will be all right. We just have to help him . . . no matter what happens. We have to be there for him . . ." Jaejoong uttered.

Xiah, Micky and U-Know looked at each other. Then they all nodded their heads in approval. They were all going to help Max . . . They were determined to do everything just to make him happy. . . .

CHAPTER 11

Max and the other DBSK members arrived at the hotel where the party was being held wearing black and white suits.

Max, in particular was wearing a black suit that somehow made him look more handsome and dashing than usual.

As soon as the DBSK boys arrived, a lot of screams were heard from the hundreds of fans already waiting outside the hotel.

The DBSK boys tried to act normal even though they were totally taken by surprise by the huge number of people already waiting for the guests of the party.

But what made them more surprised was the total preparation for the event. There was a tight security before and after entering the hotel.

And after they entered the place, their mouths totally dropped with shock after seeing the grand set-up of the party. They could easily tell that no amount was spared in preparing for the party.

The DBSK members suddenly felt awkward in entering the venue. All the other guests were prominent figures in the business, sports and entertainment world.

Somehow they all felt that they were the least important people in the room.

"Wow . . . Look at the guests. Is this really just a party or is it a convention for all the rich and famous people in Japan?" Xiah couldn't stop himself from voicing out.

U-Know nodded in agreement. Everyone in the party were all celebrities as well.

"Try to act normal boys . . . But remember to be courteous and extra accommodating at all times. We certainly don't want to offend anyone here. As you can see, all the people invited here are very famous themselves. Ahh . . . I think I forget to tell you that the sponsors of the race have already sent word to me that all of us can stay here in this hotel tonight. They say that one of the sponsors of the race owns this hotel. So he offered the services of the hotel to all the guests in the party tonight. If you want I can book us a room already," the DBSK boys' manager said.

Max stared at their manager for a few minutes before finally speaking.

"Hyung, you mean all the drivers in the race will be staying in this hotel as well?" he asked curiously.

The old man smiled. "Yes, Fate will be staying here tonight. Someone told me that all the guests here will each be given a room. So you guys need to decide if you want to stay in a single room or you want to have your own rooms."

U-Know looked at the other DBSK members. "Hyung, is there a room where all of us can stay?" he then asked their manager.

"I'll try to book you guys in a room where all of you can stay. Just wait here," the old man said before leaving.

As soon as their manager left . . . .

"Hyung, by any chance, have you seen Fate?" Max asked Jaejoong, as he continued to look around.

"No, I haven't seen her. And I haven't seen Michael either. Maybe they are still in the fan meeting," Jaejoong replied.

"Oh . . ." Max uttered with disappointment.

Micky couldn't help but shake his head and smile. "Don't worry. I know she will be here in a little while. The party is about to start. Just try to be more patient and you'll be able to see her soon enough."

"Hmmm . . . I wonder where she could be right now. I do hope that she already left the fan meeting," Max said with worry.

U-Know lightly laughed. "Are you really Max? How come you've suddenly turned into such a different person? It's like you're not the Max we all know."

Micky laughed as well. "That's the power of love," he teased.

"Hyung, stop with the teasing. I'm nervous already," Max uttered.

"Speaking of love . . . the love of your life just walked in," Xiah said to Max as he signaled him to look at a group of people that just arrived.

Max quickly looked at the direction where Xiah was looking. His heart almost stopped beating after seeing Fate.

Fate was wearing a stunning black evening dress that showed her sexy figure. Her long black hair was tied up in a very sophisticated way. Her total appearance was totally captivating.

Max tried to control himself. Somehow he wanted to quickly ran to her side and be with her again.

Fate looked so elegant and beautiful. Somehow she instantly gained all the people's attention as soon as she appeared.

Different thoughts were racing into his head. He still couldn't believe that the beautiful woman he was looking at belonged to him.

"Hey . . . Max . . . wake up. . . Stop drooling," Micky teased.

Max quickly looked at Micky, then he tried to smile.

"Would it be all right if I go to her now?" Max asked Jaejoong curiously.

"No, Max. Just leave her alone for now. She still needs to do some things for the race. The two of you can have your own private time after she has socialized with the other guests," Jaejoong tried to Max realize his point.

"Oh. . . Then I need to wait . . . until she comes to me personally?" Max asked curiously again.

"Yes," U-Know replied instantly.

"Just be patient, Max. This is a party for the race. If you tag along with her, she won't be able to do what she needs to do. So just wait," Jaejoong said again.

Max nodded his head. There was nothing he could do but agree with his friends.

More than half an hour passed . . . .

Max felt like his heart was slowly being ripped from his body as he silently watched as Fate talked and laughed with different men. But what totally made him lose his control was seeing Fate with Norman. He was talking and chatting with her along with other guests.

"How come he's allowed to be near her . . . and I'm not?" he muttered to himself. He was very jealous. So jealous that he was already losing his sanity.

Time passed by . . .

Max had already drank more than 3 glasses of wine. Fate was still socializing with some female guests of the party. Max just stared at her. He was hoping that she would glance his way.

"Hey, slow down. That's your third glass already," Micky tried to caution Max about drinking.

"I know. Don't worry. I'm not drunk yet," Max said with a light laugh.

"Uh-oh . . . He's already drunk. Better try to sober him up," Jaejoong said seriously. "Our manager might notice him. He would surely get into trouble."

"I'm not drunk, hyung," Max repeated.

The other DBSK boys were already trying to stop Max from getting another glass of wine.

Fate who was already very anxious to get away from Norman and the other guests glanced at Max's direction. She was suddenly alarmed after seeing the way that Max was behaving. She quickly excused herself from the people she was talking to and was about to go to Max when . . .

"Fate, where are you going?" Norman asked as he grabbed her hand.

"I . . . " Fate wanted to say something. She then looked at Max's direction again.

Norman quickly looked at Max as well. Somehow he understood the concern in Fate's eyes. "Very well. Take care of him first."

Fate quickly went to Max's side.

"Max, what's wrong?" she asked with concern.

Max looked at Fate and smiled. "Oh . . . nothing's wrong. I just drank a little," he said as he tried to stand up.

Fate quickly helped Max. His body was somehow already shaking. "You're drunk already?" she asked with a sigh.

"I'm not," Max said again.

"Come on . . . I need to sober you up before the other guests notices you," Fate said with concern.

"Why are you embarrassed with me?" Max asked as if hurt.

"Max, it's not like that," Fate said. She could easily see the pain in his eyes. Somehow she wanted to take it all away. "What's wrong with you?" she asked again.

"He's jealous with that Norman guy," Micky answered.

"What? Norman? He's just a friend Max . . ." she quickly uttered.

"Friend? Yeah . . . a friend," Max uttered as he sighed heavily.

Fate stared at Max. "What can I do to erase your doubts? Do I need to prove myself to you?" she asked seriously.

Max quickly looked at Fate. He could easily tell that Fate was irritated with him. Somehow his drunkenness suddenly went away. "I . . . I am sorry. Please don't be mad," he said with a low voice.

Fate looked at the other DBSK members and then at Max.

"Please don't be like that. Norman already knows that I am involved with you. And he's already accepted it. So there's nothing you should be worried or jealous about," she tried to explain.

"Oh . . . I am really sorry," Max uttered again.

Fate couldn't help but smile. Max was so cute with the way he was acting. He was like a small child in a man's body. He was totally charming in whatever action he made.

She suddenly sighed. "God, you should be thankful that you're so cute. Somehow just looking at you makes me forget that I should be mad with you," she then uttered with a smile.

Max quickly stared back at Fate "So you're not mad with me?"

Fate shook her head. "No."

Suddenly while they were talking a sweet music echoed throughout the entire place. Several couples were already dancing on the dance floor.

Max looked at Fate. "Would you like to dance with me?" he asked sweetly.

Fate lightly laughed. "Do you think you can handle yourself? You were drunk just a few minutes ago," she said with a smile.

Max smiled as well. "Yes, I can do anything as long as you are here."

Fate smiled and nodded her head. Max then slowly took her hand and led her onto the dance floor.

As soon as Max and Fate were on the dance floor, all eyes were immediately set on them. They were the perfect couple. . . Max was so handsome and Fate was so captivating. Some of the other guests sighed. They really liked watching Fate and Max dance with each other. Even the TV crew members that were busy interviewing a guest suddenly stopped and focused on the dance floor.

"I'm sorry for being so childish . . . and for being jealous of Norman," Max said.

Fate lightly laughed. "It's okay, Max. At least now . . . I know that you really care about me."

Max suddenly stopped dancing. "I care about you Fate," he said seriously.

"Max . . ." she uttered as she looked deep into his eyes.

"Fate . . ."

"I love you Max . . ." she uttered with sincerity in her eyes. This was the first time that she was saying those words to a man. Somehow her entire soul was in heaven. She was finally saying those three wonderful words to the very first man that she had learned to love.

Max felt like his heart was dancing with joy. "I love you too Fate . . ." he uttered.

Somehow they suddenly forgot where they were and that there were people watching them.

Within seconds . . . Max carefully kissed Fate with such tenderness and sweetness that made most of the female guests gasped with total envy, while Fate returned Max's kiss with such a passion that just melted Michael and Norman's hearts.

Within minutes . . . Fate and Max had finally announced to the world that they were really in love . . .

CHAPTER 12

In Norman's hotel room . . . .

"What are you planning to do now?" Norman asked as he quickly drunk all the contents of his glass in one gulp.

Michael continued to play around with his glass of wine. "What am I supposed to do?" he asked back.

Norman slowly stared at the man sitting beside him. "You're really unbelievable. Imagine you have been in love with Fate much longer than I have . . . but you're just letting her go so easily. Why is it so easy for you to see her with another man? If I were in your position, I would have already taken advantage of my friendship with her. Do you really like her? Or are you just saying it so to confuse me?"

Michael drunk all the contents of his glass in one shot as well. "Do I look I am fooling around with you?" he asked Norman with a serious expression on his face.

Norman slowly shook his head. "Well it's too late now. She's really fallen for that guy. I can see it in her eyes. She has never been this bold with anyone before."

Michael lightly laughed. "She has always been a strong girl. I never imagined she can be so bold even when it comes to love."

Norman nodded his head. "That Max guy is truly very lucky. I just hope that he knows how to take care of her."

Michael took the bottle in front of him and poured himself another shot. "Don't worry. Max is very serious with her. I know he will surely take good care of her. The thing I am worried about now . . . is their way of life. They are both very busy and they have their own priorities in life. I just hope that they will be able to work everything out."

"Yes, they are really different from each other," Norman uttered. "Imagine a racer and a singer . . . such an unusual couple."

"I am quite mad with myself right now. Somehow I can't stop myself from feeling like I just did the most stupid thing a guy could ever do. Do you think I really did something stupid?" Michael confessed and asked.

Norman couldn't help but chuckle. "Yeah, you just did the most stupid thing. You just gave away the only woman you have loved for years."

Michael stared at Norman. He was trying to deny the fact that Norman had already stated. He was trying to justify to himself what he had done. But his heart was already telling him another opinion.

"I just wish that Max really loves her with all his heart or else I will surely make him regret it for the rest of his life," Norman said with a serious tone.

"Why do you keep saying that? Max maybe young. . . but he seems to be quite responsible and straight with everything he does," Michael said.

Norman shook his head in disbelief. "How can you still have the heart to defend that guy? You're truly remarkable."

"I am just being fair," Michael answered.

"Fair? You're being fair with him? But can you say that you are fair with yourself?" Norman asked sarcastically.

Michael looked at Norman seriously. Somehow he knew he had a point. He knew he was right, but he was just too afraid to admit that he was wrong.

In the DBSK's hotel room . . . .

"Do you think it is wise that we left Max with Fate? He is still drunk," Xiah asked U-Know.

"What can we do? Fate wanted us to leave him there. Do you want us to stay there too?" Micky asked with a grin.

"But . . ." Xiah said with hesitation.

"We will just be a bother to both of them," Micky uttered.

"What's wrong? Are you afraid that something bad will happen to those two?" Jaejoong asked Xiah curiously.

Xiah just lowered his head. Somehow he was embarrassed with what he was thinking. "He's drunk. We might never know what will run through his head," he tried to justify himself.

"Trust him," U-Know uttered. "He's not like that. He can handle himself."

"I just hope so. But he's still young . . . and this is his first relationship," Xiah said with concern.

"That's another reason why we should respect his decision and his actions. He is already mature enough to be responsible for his deeds. If he does decide to do something . . . then I believe he is already man enough to be accountable for his acts."

"Hey, we're talking about Max here. He's not like Micky," Jaejoong said with a laugh. "If it was Micky that was left with Fate . . . then we should be worried," he said with a laugh.

"Hey, and what do you mean with that kind of a remark?" Micky asked with a raised tone.

Xiah and U-Know couldn't help but laugh. Somehow the tension and concern they were all feeling suddenly disappeared.

"I was just joking. I just mean . . . Max is harmless. . . compared with you," Jaejoong answered with a loud laugh.

Micky started to laugh as well. "Let's just forget about Max and Fate. I believe they are already having a wonderful time together."

And after several minutes of talking, they had already forgotten about Max and Fate being left alone in a room. All their worries had finally disappeared.

While in Fate's hotel room . . . .

"So are you happy now?" Fate sweetly asked Max. They were both sitting on the couch. Max was tightly holding her in his arms while she was playing around with his hand.

"Very happy," he answered. "How about you? Aren't you regretting that we already announced our relationship?"

"Why should I regret it? I love you Max and I'm not afraid to let everyone know about it," she answered.

"Fate. . . thank you," Max uttered.

She looked at him for a few seconds. "Thank you for what?"

"Thank you for loving me . . . inspite of a lot of things," he replied.

Fate lovingly stared at Max's face. Then she cupped his face her hands. "I should be the one saying thank you Max."

"Why?" Max asked, quite confused.

"Because . . . because you returned my love. Frankly I don't know what I would be feeling right now if I was in love with you and you didn't return my feelings. I believe I was the first one who fell in love. So I am very lucky that you felt the same way I did," she answered.

Max gently took Fate's hands and sweetly kissed them one by one.

Fate felt like a certain electricity was traveling through her entire body. "Max, I love you."

Max stared deep into her eyes. "I love you too Fate." He slowly covered her waiting lips. Their kiss was more passionate and more exploring this time. They didn't care about anything else but the emotions they were feeling. They were finally in each other's arms and their hearts were telling them to let out all their hidden desires.

Somehow everything stood still as the two lovers continued to kiss each other. All they could think about was they loved each other and there was nothing that could ever separate them apart. As Max started to become more daring with his moves, Fate's mind was starting to have doubts.

"Max . . . aren't we taking this too fast? Don't you think we should slow down?" she asked with concern. She was trying to stop Max from what he was doing. She was trying to tell herself that Max was just acting weird because of the wine he had drunk before.

"You love me right? Please. . . I need you," Max begged as he held her tighter. Somehow he couldn't stop the desire that was taking control of his entire body.

Fate didn't know what to do. She could hear and feel the longing in Max's voice. Somehow she didn't want to make him feel rejected. She wanted to give him everything . . . everything. . . just to make him happy.

Slowly Fate just closed her eyes. She was willing to do anything just to prove her love for him. As Max continued to kiss her, a tear slowly escaped from her eye.

CHAPTER 13

The sunlight was starting to enter the room. Fate slowly faced Max as he slept beside her. Gently. . . she traced his lips with her finger. She loved him with all her heart. But what happened between them was unexpected. She had never planned for it to happen. She had always imagined her first time to be with the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with. Sadness immediately crept into her heart. She didn't want to regret what she had done, but a part of her soul was telling her that she made a mistake. She was still young and so was Max. They both had a lot of things to fulfill in their lives . . . goals, ambitions and promises. She knew that there was a chance their love could easily disappear. They had met and fell in love with each other in such a short time that there was really no strong foundation on their relationship. All they had were words . . . words that could easily be broken and forgotten.

Slowly . . . tears started to cloud her eyes. She loved him. She kept on telling herself over and over again so to stop herself from feeling guilty.

The longer she stared at Max's face, the heavier her heart became. Suddenly questions started to fill her mind . . . questions that she didn't want to think of and was afraid to ask.

"I love you Max. I decided to give myself to you because I wanted to prove how much you really mean to me. I just hope that you will realize what it means. Right now, I am afraid. I am afraid of what I had done. When I was still young I had already promised myself that I will only give myself to the man that I will marry. I want my first time to also be the last time. But . . . but you changed it. I am not angry with you or whatsoever. What happened was with my consent. Questions are starting to fill my mind Max. What will happen now Max? What will you say once you wake up? Will you stay the same or will you suddenly change? I am afraid, Max. I admit that I wasn't afraid to be so bold with you before but it was because I still had myself intact. But now . . . now, I had already lost the most important part of my life. I just hope that you will treasure what I gave you. And I just hope that I didn’t make a mistake. I pray that you will stay the same and that you will continue to love me,” she uttered in her mind as she continued to stare at Max as he peacefully slept right next to her.

Tear just kept on flowing out of Fate’s eyes as she gazed at Max’s face. She wanted to be with him forever. But she knew it was impossible. He still had a lot of things to accomplish in his life. And she was also in the same situation. She didn’t want any complications in her life. All she ever wanted was just a chance to love and be loved.

Fate silently cried. She was confused on whether what she was wrong or right. She knew she wasn’t thinking straight when she decided to give herself up. But she loved him. It was the only reason that kept appearing in her mind. Somehow she wanted to justify her action with this single reason.

“I have already accepted what I had done . . . But why is it that I can’t seem to stop myself from crying? Why is my heart filled with fear right now? What will I do after this Max? What if you suddenly decide to leave me? Will I be able to take it? Please tell me you won’t leave me Max . . . Please tell me that you will stay with me . . . forever,” she continued to say in her mind.

Slowly Max started to feel the heat of the sun as it touched his bare skin. He opened his eyes slowly. He could feel his head was still hurting because of the several glasses of wine he had drunk during the party.

As he opened his eyes, he was suddenly faced with Fate as she silently cried on the bed. She was also lying on the bed, facing him. Her eyes were closed but the tears continuously flowed out.

Max carefully stared at Fate. He was trying to think straight. He was trying to remember everything that had happened the night before.

It was like a bomb had exploded right in front of him. He was instantly dragged from his sleepy and confused state into reality. It was only then he realized something . . . A single white sheet was the only thing that was covering their naked bodies.

Max closed his eyes again. Somehow he was wishing that everything was just a dream. Somehow he was wishing that everything wasn’t real.

As he gently opened his eyes again, his heart had pounded hard. Everything was real. He wasn’t dreaming. Something had really happened between him and Fate.

He then stared at Fate’s beautiful face. Pity quickly entered his heart. She was still crying. Somehow he wanted to ask why she was crying. But he already knew the answer to that question. He didn’t know what to do. He wanted to comfort her and make her stop crying . . . but he didn’t know how.

Minutes already passed. Max couldn’t take it anymore. He carefully touched Fate’s face.

“Why are you crying Fate? What’s wrong?” he asked.

Startled, Fate quickly opened her eyes. She was shocked to see Max staring at her with sadness in his eyes. She was suddenly caught with nothing to answer.

“I . . . I . . . “ she started to mumble.

“What’s wrong?” he repeated.

“Nothing’s wrong,” she tried to deny the real reason why she was crying.

“You wouldn’t be crying if there wasn’t any reason,” Max uttered with concern.

Fate looked straight into his eyes. “I . . . I am afraid Max.”

Max felt his heart had stopped with what she had said. “What are you afraid of?” he gently asked.

Fate lowered her gaze. Somehow she couldn’t look straight at him anymore. “I am afraid . . . of . . . what we had done,” she answered honestly.

Max then felt something was stuck in his throat. Somehow he didn’t know what to say. He was also afraid of the consequences of what had happened between them.

“Max . . .” she uttered. She was now looking at him. She could see the confusion in his eyes. Somehow this was already hurting her. She never expected to see such a reaction in his eyes. It only means that he wasn’t prepared to take responsibility for what had happened between them. The thought was already killing her and was shattering her heart into a million pieces.

“Max . . . you don’t have to worry about . . . what happened . . . We were both drunk. We . . . we can just . . . forget about it . . . if you like,” she tried to say with a trembling voice. She wanted to fight the tears that wanted to escape her eyes. She wanted to pretend to be strong. She didn’t want him to see her crying again.

Max suddenly looked at Fate with mixed emotions on his face. He was suddenly scared of what Fate had said. “Forget? What do you mean?” he asked with confusion.

“I know that you’re not ready for this kind of situation . . . You can’t have this kind of complication in your life . . . right now. We can just pretend that nothing ever happened between us. We can just go back to our usual routine. Let’s just forget about . . . last night,” she said with a bleeding heart.

Max slowly sat up on the bed. He then looked at Fate again. “Are you sure about what you’re saying? Are you just going to let go of what happened between us . . . so easily?”

Fate carefully sat on the bed as well. She then tried to smile back at Max. “Yes. I know . . . we both still have many things to accomplish in our lives and being involved seriously will only complicate things. Let’s just consider last night as a dream.”

“A dream that will forever haunt my memory for the rest of my life,” the thought suddenly entered Fate’s mind.

Max stared at the woman he loved with sadness in his eyes. He was totally confused on what to say and what to do. Somehow he wanted to ease the pain she was feeling. She was right. They still had many things to do. And honestly, being involved seriously was far from his plans. Yes, he wanted her. He loved her. But his love wasn’t that strong enough to make him plan his future with her. Now that something had happened between them. It was only then that he realized his mistake. He shouldn’t have forced her. He shouldn’t have made love to her . . . especially when he couldn’t be responsible for her.

Max sighed. He knew he was being unfair. But if he lied any further, he would just make things worse for both of them.

“I’m sorry,” was all he could utter.

Fate suddenly bit her lower lip to stop herself from crying out. The words she heard had suddenly made her heart stop beating. It was like she wanted to die at that exact moment.

She was expecting that he was going to comfort her and assure her that everything was going to be all right. She never imagined that he would actually agree with what she was saying. She wanted to show him that she was angry. But she just hid her real emotions. She just pretended that everything was all right with her. She needed to act like she was strong.

Suddenly . . . a phone rang. Max hurriedly went to answer his phone.

And after several minutes . . .

“Fate, I’m sorry but I really need to go. I forgot we have a meeting at the studio this morning. They are already waiting for me in the studio. I really need to hurry,” Max said as he quickly dressed himself up.

Fate tried to hold back her tears. She just nodded her head and put on a fake smile. “It’s okay. I also have a practice at the race track at 10.”

Max gave Fate a worried look. “Are you sure you’re all right?” he asked again.

Fate just nodded her head. “I’m fine. Just go. I wouldn’t want you to be late,” she said with a forced smile.

Max wanted to say something, but he was already late for the meeting. He suddenly thought that he could always talk with her later. He hurriedly gathered his things, and quickly gave Fate a short kiss on the forehead.

“I am sorry, but I really need to go. Let’s talk again after the meeting. I will call you okay,” he said in a hurry.

As soon as Max left the room, Fate immediately released the pain she was feeling. She cried uncontrollably that her entire body was trembling. Now she knew why she was afraid. Now she knew . . . she had made a mistake.

CHAPTER 14

"What's wrong Max?" Jaejoong asked as he gently sat down beside him. He has been observing for the passed two hours and he could easily tell that something was bothering him.

Max just stared at his friend. He was trying to decide whether to tell him the truth or not. Somehow he felt embarrassed about what he had done. And he knew once his friends learned about what happened, they would surely make a big issue out of it, especially Jaejoong.

"Hyung," he uttered.

"What is it? What's wrong Max? You can tell me. Did you and Fate have a fight or something?" Jaejoong asked with concern.

Max gently shook his head. "No, we didn't fight."

"I can easily tell that something is bothering you. What is it?" Jaejoong asked again.

"Hyung, I have a problem," Max tried to utter.

"Hey, what are you guys talking about?" Micky asked as he suddenly sat down beside Jaejoong.

Max then looked at a different direction. "Ah, nothing. I need to get a drink," Max said as he quickly stood up and left.

"What's wrong with him?" Micky curiously asked Jaejoong.

Jaejoong just shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. He was about to say something, but then you came along and ruined the mood," he said as he shook his head.

"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt," Micky said apologetically.

"I think we need to talk to him once we get home," Jaejoong uttered to Micky.

"Yes, U-Know and Xiah have also talked to me about him. We have also noticed his strange behavior ever since this morning," Micky said with a sigh.

"Well, there's nothing we can do but wait. Come on, our manager is already calling us," Jaejoong said as he quickly stood up.

An hour after. . . . in the race track. . .

"Fate, Fate, what's wrong with you? I've been calling you for more than five times now?" Michael asked with worry after lightly tapping Fate's shoulder to get her attention.

Surprised, Fate immediately stared at Michael with a blank expression on her face. She had been thinking about Max and what had happened between them ever since she arrived at the race track.

"What's wrong? Are you sick?" Michael asked again.

Fate shook her head and tried to smile. "I'm okay," she replied. She then stood up and went straight to her car.

Michael just stared at Fate as she slowly got into her car.

Within minutes, Michael immediately followed and got into his own race car as well.

Fate felt like her head was spinning. Somehow she couldn't think straight. All she could think of was what had happened between her and Max. And she was also concerned about the outcome of that incident.

She let out a long sigh. Somehow she wanted to just forget about what was constantly playing in her mind and pretend that it never happened.

"Fate, are you sure that you can drive?" Michael asked again through the built in communication system in her car.

"I'm all right. I'm good to go," she replied as she slowly started her car.

"Okay. We will be having a twelve lap race," Michael uttered.

Minutes passed . . . and the practice for the race started.

"Will he call me? What have I done? I'm so stupid. Why did I say those things to him. He might be thinking that what happened between us means nothing to me. I am so so stupid. Should I call him? What if he doesn't answer my call? Will he start avoiding me now? What will I do if he suddenly decides to break it off with me? Should I tell my problem to Michael? Will Michael understand? I know he will get mad when he finds about that I already gave myself to Max. Oh god! What should I do now?" the words just kept on repeating in Fate's mind.

"Fate! Fate! Fate! You're going the wrong way! You're going to hit the wall . . . FATE!" Michael shouted at the top of his lungs.

Fate instantly realized what was going on. Her instincts immediately took over. She was able to control her car and stop it before she hit the wall.

Fate's heart was pounding fast and very hard. It was like she couldn't breathe. She was still trying to catch her breath when Michael and her other team members came rushing to her car.

"Fate, are you all right?" Michael asked with fear in his eyes. His face was very pale. He actually thought that he was going to lose her forever.

"I . . . I'm fine. Don't worry," she tried to utter even though her entire body was still shaking from fear.

Some of Fate's team members assisted her in getting out of her car.

And as soon as she was out, Michael immediately grabbed her arm and started to drag her out of the race track.

"Michael, you're hurting me. Let me go please. Where are you taking me?" Fate cried out.

All the people in the race track just watched as Michael dragged Fate. They had never seen him get angry before. All of them knew that both Fate and Michael had a special relationship, so they didn't want to interfere. And besides, they all thought that Fate really needed a good lecturing from Michael. She could have been hurt badly. Good thing that she was really such a good driver that she was able to avoid the accident.

"Poor Fate, I think she's really going to get it now," a staff member said to another man.

"Well, she should have been careful. Imagine trying to drive, when she's not herself. Now that is bad," the other man uttered.

Some of the men just shook their heads in disapproval of what Fate had done. They never imagined that she could be so careless.

Michael's heart was beating very fast. Somehow he didn't know what to do and how to react. He was still shaking in fear because he had actually thought that Fate was going to get hurt.

As soon as they reached Michael's car in the parking lot, he then slowly released her.

Fate looked at him, with fear in her eyes. She had never seen him become so violent with her. So she knew that he was really upset.

"Michael, I. . .I'm sorry," she tried to utter.

And after hearing those words, Michael immediately embraced her. His embrace was so tight that somehow she couldn't breathe.

Fate was surprised. She couldn't understand the sudden change in Michael's attitude towards her.

"I'm sorry. I know I was careless," she tried to say.

"Ssshhh, you don't have to say anything. I am just thankful that you're not hurt. Do you know how scared I was when I saw your car running towards the wall?" Michael said with a quivering voice.

"I'm sorry. . .I was sort of distracted I guess," she tried to explain.

Michael looked at Fate. It was only then that she realized that he was crying.

"Michael, why are you crying?" she asked with concern in her eyes.

He gently cupped her face. "Do you know. . . as I watched your car run towards the wall . . . I was thinking if I could only trade places with you. I would do it without any hesitation. I was so scared that . . . I was going to lose you forever," he said with so much emotions visible in his eyes.

Fate stared deeply into his eyes. "Michael," she uttered. She didn't understand the emotions that she was seeing in his eyes. She knew what it was, but she just didn't want to believe it.

Michael tightly held Fate once again. This time his embrace was giving her such an unfamiliar feeling. It was a feeling that she didn't want to recognize. She could feel his tears as it slowly fell down on her shoulder.

"Michael, I'm all right. Please . . . ," she tried to say.

"I thought I had lost you Fate. . . . I don't know what I would have done if something bad happened to you," he said softly while trying to control himself from crying.

Fate's heart was deeply touched with his words and his actions. She slowly returned his embrace. "Thank you, Michael. At least, I know . . . someone . . . actually cares for me," she said after remembering Max again.

Michael quickly faced Fate again. "Fate, I think it is about time . . . that I tell you something. . . something very important," he said bravely.

Fate stared at her friend. "Michael, what is it?"

"I . . . I love you Fate," he had finally told the truth.

"Michael?" was all she could utter.

"I had been in love with you for years now. All this time, I was hoping that you would actually see me as a man. A man who can love you and take care of you, and not only as a friend. I had been waiting for the right time to tell you all the things hidden in my heart. But I never found the right time. And today, after that accident. . . it was then that I realized that I shouldn't have waited so long. I don't want to lose the chance to say that I love you . . . so I am saying it now. . . I love you Fate. . . with all my heart," he finally confessed.

Fate tried to act calm. But deep inside, her heart and mind were already going in different directions. She was totally confused. She was already involved with Max. But she didn't want to lose Michael either. Somehow she felt guilty that she was being greedy. But she was confused with her own emotions.

"I. . . I'm really confused. I don't know what to say," she uttered.

"Then don't say anything. I don't care if you're in another man's arms, as long as I know you're happy . . . and safe," he said with sadness in his voice. He then gently kissed her on her forehead. "I love you. . . with no conditions." And without any hesitations, he slowly lowered his head and gave Fate the kiss that he had been wanting to give her for a very long time now.

Fate was stunned. Her whole body had suddenly become frozen. She just stood like a statue as Michael kissed her. Both her mind and her heart were already numb. She knew she loved Max, but she didn't want to hurt Michael. So she just allowed him to kiss her.

As Michael held Fate in his arms, a pair of eyes were already blurring with tears. Max slowly turned away from the sight that was hurting him deeply. He had decided to come to the race track to have a talk with Fate. But he never expected what he would find there.

"And I actually believed that you loved me," were the words that kept on repeating in his head as he quickly left. Somehow all the words that he had tried to find and had been wanting to say suddenly vanished, as a growing feeling of hate and anger appeared.

CHAPTER 15

That night . . . as soon as Max arrived at their apartment, he quickly locked himself up in his room. The other DBSK members were all left wondering what was wrong with him. Jaejoong wanted to talk to him, but U-Know and the others just told Jaejoong to let him have some time alone. They were all guessing that he was having a fight with Fate. And they knew it was better to just stay away from a lover’s quarrel.

Later in Max’s room . . .

Max silently stared at the glass of wine that he was holding. It was empty again. He then slowly picked up the bottle of wine beside him, and poured himself another drink.

He had been sitting alone in his room for more two hours already. But somehow all the wine he had drank during those two hours didn’t have any effect on him. He was hoping that the wine would somehow ease the pain he was feeling and erase the hatred and anger that was building inside his heart.

“You love me? Who are you kidding? You even slept with me? For what? So you could go around and kiss . . . and even sleep with another man? You’re disgusting Fate! Do you think I’m stupid? Do you think you can cheat on me? And to think . . . I was so serious about you. You’re nothing! I’ll make sure you’re going to regret meeting me. I . . . . I loved you . . . But not anymore. You’re the very first girl that I really loved. But you just destroyed all my love and trust. You’re worthless now, Fate. But before I let you go . . . . I promise you. . . I will give you something that you will never forget. I’m going to make you cry so hard that you would never . . . ever forget it . . .” he uttered while he continuously played around with the glass of wine that he was holding.

The next day . . . .

Fate stared at the TV screen. She wanted to make herself busy with watching a movie. But her mind was still in confusion. She was still unable to decide what she needed to do. Somehow what happened at the parking lot the day before just kept on repeating in her mind like a movie that had no ending.

She slowly reached for the remote and turned off the TV. It was totally useless to watch a movie, she thought. A different movie was already stuck in her mind.

“Aaaahhhh….” she uttered in total frustration.

She then looked at her watch. It was already two in the afternoon. Their group had a scheduled practice that day. But because of the accident yesterday she wasn’t allowed to join the practice. All the other team members agreed to ban her in the race track for three days. They all said it was for her own good. She was supposed to stay in her hotel room and just rest. But she couldn’t rest . . . Just waiting in the hotel was driving her insane.

Different things were constantly running in her mind . . . But the most important thing that was bothering her was Max.

“Why hasn’t he called me? After what happened between us . . . he has changed all of a sudden. Is it because of . . .” she quickly shook her head as if to erase the thought that was screaming in her head.

“No! He said he loves me. He’s not the kind of guy that would just leave me. . . especially now after that night,” she tried to tell herself.

“But why hasn’t he called me? Maybe he’s busy with work. . . Maybe he’s still working on something . . . maybe. . .” she suddenly stopped. She was already running out of excuses to give herself.

“Should I call him?” she started to ask herself. “No, I can’t do that. He might get angry if I disturb him. But . . . but . . . why? What should I do now?” she asked as she suddenly sat down on the couch. She started to stare blankly at the open space in front of her.

Suddenly . . . her phone started to ring.

Fate quickly got up and answered her phone.

“Hello,” she greeted excitedly.

“Fate,” Max slowly uttered.

“Max . . .” she said with a sweet smile on her lips.

“Are you free today?” Max asked.

“Yes. I am totally free today. I don’t have anything to do today. Why? Are you free as well? Do you want to meet up with me?” Fate asked happily.

“Well, not really. I am in the studio right now. We’re getting ready for a TV performance and an interview. Do you think you can come here?” Max asked softly.

“Yes, just tell me where you are. I will be there as soon as possible,” she uttered.

“That’s good,” Max uttered as a devious smile appeared on his lips.

An hour passed . . . .

Fate got into the TV station without any difficulty. Somehow everyone knew who she was, even the two guards at the gate asked for her autograph. They even told her that they were her huge fans.

As she went straight to the boys’ dressing room, her heart was singing in joy.

“Max . . .” Fate happily called out as she entered the room.

She was suddenly surprised with what she saw.

Max was sitting in a corner of the room . . . with him was a woman, younger and more beautiful than her.

The two were talking intimately in the corner. While the other DBSK members were in another corner of the room . . . busy chatting with one another.

As soon as Fate entered the room, the other four DBSK boys were immediately alarmed. They quickly stood up and approached her. They were all determined to distract her in anyway they can.

“Fate . . . what . . . what are you doing here?” Xiah nervously asked.

Fate looked at Xiah, then at Max and the girl, with a confused look on her face.

Xiah slowly lowered his head. Somehow he couldn’t bear the pitiful look on Fate’s face.

U-Know rushed to Max’s side. “Max, Fate is here . . .” he announced to get his friend’s attention.

But Max just looked at U-Know with a blank expression on his face. He then gave Fate a quick glance and just continued to talk with the girl he was with.

Fate kept on looking at Max and the girl. “Who . . . who is she?” she suddenly asked Jaejoong.

Jaejoong didn’t know what to answer. “She’s one of the new female dancers that we’re working with,” he was finally able to answer.

U-Know was starting to get irritated with the way Max was acting. “Max, your girlfriend is here. Maybe . . . you would like to greet her and take care of her.”

Max stared at U-Know with a cold expression on his face. “So? Do I need to usher her in or something? She’s already old enough to take care of herself,” he answered back.

Fate quickly bit down on her lip to stop herself from crying. She heard everything that Max said.

Xiah, Micky and Jaejoong immediately exchanged glances with one another. Somehow they were trying to ask each other what was going on.

“So Max , she’s your girlfriend?” the girl asked Max curiously.

Max looked at Fate, and then smiled at the girl beside him. “Yes, something like that.”

“Max!” U-Know uttered as if trying to warn him.

But Max just continued to look like he didn’t care that he was hurting Fate.

Fate’s tears were already forming in her eyes. She was trying to control her emotions. But she knew she wasn’t strong enough.

Jaejoong saw the tears that Fate was trying to hide. He suddenly became infuriated by what Max was doing.

“Max, stop fooling around. Take care of Fate . . . for god’s sake!” Jaejoong shouted at Max as he shot him an angry look.

Max gave Jaejoong a confused look. “Take care of her? Why should I? Is she sick or something?” he asked jokingly.

Micky shook his head in disbelief. He couldn’t understand why Max was behaving in such a heartless manner.

Fate just lowered her head. She knew she was just causing problems for the boys.

“I think . . . it would be best if I just leave. I’m sorry . . . if I’m disturbing you guys,” she said with a quivering voice.

Max suddenly looked examined Fate’s reaction. “You’re leaving already? You can’t leave yet. I still have some things that for you to do.”

“What?” Fate asked in a shocked manner.

Max smiled. “Well, you see . . . our assistant is sick today. So we don’t have anyone to fix our things. Since you’re free . . . you wouldn’t mind helping us out . . . right?”

“What?” Fate asked again. She was totally taken by surprise bye what Max was asking her to do.

“Are you deaf? I said you can start packing my things. I don’t like such tiring tasks. And since you are my so-called girlfriend . . . you might as well do it for me. A girl should always help her boyfriend, isn’t that right?” Max asked with a maddening smile.

Fate suddenly thought the ground just opened up and swallowed her whole. Her entire body quickly turned numb. She wanted to move and just ran out of the room. But she couldn’t control her body. She just stood like a statue in front of everyone.

“Max, that’s enough! What’s wrong with you? She’s your girlfriend . . . not your assistant,” Micky shouted angrily at him.

Fate tried to act like she wasn’t feeling any pain. She slowly touched Micky’s arm, as if to stop him from further confronting Max.

“Micky, it’s all right. He’s right. I’m his girlfriend. I should be helping him out. Don’t worry . . . it’s okay,” she said in a low voice.

Micky stared at Fate with pity written all over his face.

Fate tried to smile at Micky. Then she slowly approached Max.

“What do you want me to do first . . . Max?” Fate asked while trying to avoid looking at the girl beside him.

“You can start placing all the clothes I used in my bag. Then arrange the other materials we used as well. After that, try to fix the bags of the others too,” Max said coldly.

“Max!” Xiah uttered in total disbelief.

Fate just nodded. She was telling herself that she wasn’t going to break down. She was going to be strong and she wasn’t going to show her weak side in front of everyone.

She quickly turned away from Max and the girl. She immediately started to arrange Max’s things.

U-Know continuously shook his head in total disapproval of what Max had done.

Xiah went to Fate’s side and quickly took the clothes that she was folding.

“Don’t do this Fate. . . please. You’re just degrading yourself,” Xiah said with sympathy in his eyes.

“It’s okay, Xiah,” she tried to utter as she continued to place some of Max’s things into his bag.

Jaejoong and Micky looked at each other. They were both going to say something when suddenly a staff member of TV station walked into the room.

“Boys, be ready in five minutes,” the man quickly announced.

U-Know nodded. “Thank you. We will be out in a few minutes.”

“All right,” the man replied back before leaving the room.

U-Know gave Max a disgusted look. “We will talk later . . . As of now, let’s all go back to work.”

“Fate, just stop this . . . please. After we’re gone, just leave . . . for now. We will talk to Max and see what’s wrong with him,” Xiah said with concern.

CHAPTER 16

Max was the first one who entered the dressing room after their performance. He was somehow hoping that he would still find Fate there.

During the entire time that he was doing the interview and the live performance, his mind was occupied with something else. Somehow he was regretting the way he had treated Fate. Even though he was angry with her, he still couldn't deny the fact that a certain spot in his heart ached after seeing the pitiful look on her face.

Max looked around the room, but she was no longer there. He then noticed that she had already arranged his bag. . . and not only his bag, but the bags of his friends as well.

Even though he tried to act cold with her . . . inside . . . his heart was bleeding out for her.

The other DBSK boys quickly entered the room. They were all angry with Max. Somehow they couldn't accept the way he had treated Fate.

U-Know immediately closed the door. He was already trying to find the right words to say. He wanted to point out all of Max's faults in a nice way. But Xiah, Jaejoong and Micky just confronted Max as soon as they were all inside the room.

"Are you happy now Max? You just made a total fool of your girlfriend. I could never believe you could actually treat Fate like that," Xiah said with extreme irritation.

Max stared at his friends. He wanted to tell them the reason for being harsh with Fate. He wanted to share what was on his mind and in his heart. But somehow he didn't want to ruin the way his friends looked at Fate.

He knew that once he told them that he saw her kissing Michael, they would all think badly of her. And he still cared enough to still protect her in his own way.

"Protect her?" the words started to echo in his mind. How could he say that when he was actually the one ruining her, he thought to himself. "Aaahhh," he uttered unexpectedly out of frustration and confusion.

He suddenly decided that it was better for his friends to be angry at him than with Fate.

“Aren’t you even going to defend yourself? Are you just going to stand there and act like nothing is wrong?’ Micky asked angrily.

Max immediately looked away. Somehow he didn’t want to have an argument with his friends. He turned his back on them and pretended that he was looking for something in his bag.

“Max, what’s wrong with you? It’s like you’ve totally changed into someone we don’t know. What’s wrong? We’re your friends. We want to help you. Please talk to us . . . . We’re all willing to listen,” U-Know said with concern.

Max quickly looked at U-Know’s direction. “Sorry hyung. Whatever problem Fate and I have . . . stays with us and no one else.”

“Problem? What kind of problem? And how could you possibly have a problem with her? She’s nice and sweet. She’s perfect, to be exact,” Micky uttered.

“Perfect?” Max uttered with a bitter smile. “She’s not perfect . . . believe me.”

Jaejoong and Micky couldn’t help but feel totally weak and torn between two sides. Somehow they wanted to scold Max and lecture him about what he had done. But then he was their friend, and they loved him no matter what he did. Somehow they still couldn’t find it in their hearts to be totally angry with him.

Xiah just sat down weakly on a chair near him.

“She even managed to arrange our things as well,” he uttered softly to the others.

“What’s wrong Max? Tell us. . . We all know that you like her. . . You even said that you loved her. So how come all of a sudden, you’re treating her differently? Did she do anything wrong? Tell us what’s bothering you,” Jaejoong uttered carefully as if trying to persuade Max to talk.

Max shook his head. “Sorry hyung. I can’t really say what the problem is . . . All of us have known each other for years now. All of you already know me inside and out. So please, just let me decide on my own . . . this time. I know what I am doing maybe wrong to all of you. But it is something which I believe is right for me,” Max said while staring seriously at his friends.

“Are you losing your mind Max? How could you consider treating a girl in such a cruel manner as the right thing? No matter what way you look at it . . . you’re the one on the wrong side. Fine . . . let’s say that she did something wrong that made you mad. If you can’t forgive her, then just break up with her. There’s no need for you to make her suffer or embarrass her. Just leave her . . . end of story. At least that way, you’re finally free of the person who you’re angry with and she can finally move on with her own life,” Micky said as if trying to reason with Max.

“Micky! Are you trying to help patch things up or are you trying to make things worse? Somehow your advice is more cruel than what Max is doing,” Jaejoong voiced out with a shocked expression on his face.

“Jaejoong, it’s better to be honest than to just pretend and make both of their lives miserable,” Micky reasoned out.

Jaejoong shook his head. Somehow he didn’t like the way Micky was thinking.

Xiah sighed. Things were starting to get more complicated. Even Jaejoong and Micky were starting to have an argument.

“Look Max, if you have a problem with Fate. Talk to her . . . Try to listen to her side first. Don’t go on judging without seeing both sides of the story,” Xiah said seriously while looking at him.

“Just drop the discussion guys. I don’t want to talk about it anymore,” Max said with a heavy sigh.

“Suit yourself. Just make sure you can live up to your decision. Think it over . . . maybe your anger is just clouding your mind. Please remember that regret is always at the end of everything. You may think that you’re doing the right thing now. But there is always a price to pay for everything. You might suddenly find yourself losing the most important part of your life . . . but it’s already too late and there’s nothing else you can do about it,” Jaejoong said with a calm voice.

Max lowered his head. He knew what his friend said was right. But he wanted to get even. He wanted to make Fate feel the pain he felt. He wanted to hurt her the same way she had hurt him.

“Let’s just stop this. This is my life. And I’m your friend . . . not Fate’s. So how come all of you are on her side?” Max asked angrily.

“Because you’re wrong,” U-Know simply replied.

“So is kissing another man right in front of your eyes . . . acceptable? Isn’t it enough reason for me to act this way? Isn’t it enough reason to drive me crazy? Right now, I hate her. I don’t want to hear her side. And I don’t want to hear her lies. . . All I want is to get even,” Max finally revealed with so much hatred in his eyes.

The other DBSK boys were all shocked with what they heard. Somehow they couldn’t believe that Fate could do such a thing.

“Max, are you sure about what you saying? Are you sure it was really her?” Jaejoong asked with disbelief.

“It was her . . . I’m one hundred percent sure . . . and the man was Michael,” Max uttered with bitterness in his voice.

“Max, there must be an explanation for that. They are best friends remember. You should really talk to her first before jumping into conclusions,” Jaejoong tried to reason out.

“Do you think that she will actually tell me the truth if I asked her?” Max asked sarcastically.

“Max, if that is the situation you’re in right now, then it would be best to break up with her already. Stop hurting her . . . Even if she did that, it still doesn’t give you the right to treat her badly. Just let her go,” Micky said seriously.

“Just let her go? No! I’m not done with her yet,” Max uttered.

“What are you planning to do?” Xiah asked worriedly.

“Before I release her, I just want her to have a taste of her own medicine,” Max answered.

“Don’t you think that she deserves to explain herself. Why don’t you talk to her Max? Ask her about what you saw,” U-Know tried to persuade Max again.

“Talk to her? Ask her? What should I say to her? How should I ask her? Is Michael a better kisser than me . . . is that what I should ask?” Max asked as he suddenly laughed bitterly. He couldn’t imagine himself talking to Fate about her and Michael.

“Max, stop trying to start a fight with us. We’re your friends. . . not your enemies,” Jaejoong warned.

“Just avoid her for a few days. Try to cool yourself down first. Maybe after a few days of being apart will give you enough time to think and decide. And maybe after . . . you can finally talk to her without being too emotional,” U-Know suggested.

“U-Know is right. Just try to calm yourself down for a few days. Then you can decide if you really want to continue your relationship with Fate or just let go. Stay away from each other while you’re still angry,” Micky added.

Max slowly nodded his head. He was glad that he had finally told his friends about what was bothering him.

“But I still suggest that you talk to her Max. Try to straighten things out. There are times that what we see isn’t really the truth. I am really afraid that there is a chance that you’re just blinded by your anger and jealousy. At least, give Fate a chance to explain herself,” U-Know uttered slowly.

“Frankly I don’t know if I can ever learn to trust her again,” Max sadly uttered.

“If that is the case, then just break up. A relationship without trust is not worth wasting time on,” Micky said again.

“Isn’t it unfair that you’re already jumping into conclusions without trying to see and understand all the important facts,” Xiah asked.

Max shook his head. “She has already hurt me. I’ve already decided I no longer want someone like her to be in my life.”

“If you’ve already decided . . . then why are you still hanging onto her?” Micky asked as if irritated.

“Simple . . . to hurt her back,” Max coldly replied.

As soon as the other DBSK boys heard Max’s answer, a frightening chill immediately crept into their hearts.

CHAPTER 17

Fate sadly stared at the sun as it slowly sets in the sky. It has been four days since the last time she saw him. Her heart was aching as she remembered what had happened that day. She still couldn’t understand what was happening to Max. She couldn’t understand why he suddenly changed from a sweet and loving man into someone so uncaring and despicable.

She sighed again as she slowly leaned forward on the railings of the balcony. She then stared at how high she was. “The people below look so small. They just seem to continuously move on and on . . .” she uttered to herself. “What if I suddenly fall from here? Will Max even care?” she asked herself as the strong wind continuously brushed up her face.

“Fate! What are you doing?” Michael shouted as he quickly grabbed her by the waist.

“Michael . . . what are you doing?” Fate shouted as she was totally surprised by Michael’s sudden action.

“What am I doing? I should be the one asking you that question. What are you doing? Are you planning to commit suicide or something?” Michael asked angrily.

“Suicide? Who?” Fate asked suddenly. She couldn’t understand what Michael was talking about.

“Yes . . . suicide . . . and it’s you! Do you know the position you were in just a few minutes ago? Just a little more . . . and you would have easily fallen down the balcony. Are you losing your mind? Before you lost yourself while driving a car . . . and now while you’re in your own hotel room? God! Do I need to hire a bodyguard just to keep you safe?” Michael answered with anger.

Fate’s angry reaction immediately switched to a more calm but sad expression.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking again,” she slowly uttered.

Michael’s tight grip on Fate’s waist slowly eased until he finally released her. He then gently turned her around to face him.

“What’s wrong Fate? Why are you acting like this? Please tell me what’s bothering you,” he said with concern in his eyes.

“Michael . . . I . . .” Fate tried to decide whether she was allowed to tell her problem to Michael.

Michael’s face softened. He could easily sense Fate’s hesitation.

“Fate . . . I know I’ve done a very stupid thing a few days ago. And I don’t really have a good excuse to clear myself up. But please . . . try to understand . . . I only did it because I love you. And I just wanted to finally let it all out once and for all. Do you know how scared I was that day? I was thinking that you were going to die. . . without even knowing how much I loved you. I’m sorry . . . if I kissed you. I promise it will never happen again. Look, I am not forcing you to love me back. I am already contented with being just your friend . . . Since I know that it is the only thing that you can offer me,” Michael tried to explain himself.

“Michael, just stop . . . please. You don’t have to explain. Let’s just forget it . . . Let’s just pretend that it never happened,” Fate uttered with a low voice.

Michael’s heart felt a sharp pain in his heart after hearing Fate’s words.

But he immediately brushed aside the pain and tried to act like nothing was wrong. He didn’t expect anything from Fate. He knew that she only treated him like a brother and nothing more.

“All right . . . Let’s just forget about it. Maybe now you can tell me what’s happening to you?” Michael asked again.

Fate looked straight into Michael’s eyes. Her hesitation and fear quickly disappeared after seeing the comforting love in his eyes.

“Michael . . . I . . . I already gave myself up,” she weakly uttered.

“What? Give yourself up? What do you mean?” Michael asked. He suddenly became confused with what he heard.

“Michael . . . I already gave myself to Max,” Fate said again. This time in a more clearer and stronger voice.

“What?” Michael exclaimed.

“I’ve already surrendered myself to him,” Fate said again.

“What have you done? Are you really out of your mind? You’ve only known him for a short time and . . . you already slept with him? I can’t believe you Fate!” Michael uttered with extreme anger.

After seeing Michael’s reaction, Fate started to cry.

“I know I’m stupid. I shouldn’t have slept with him. But I love him, Michael. I love him with all my heart. That’s why . . . I gave myself to him,” Fate uttered in between sobs.

Michael tried to control his anger. Somehow after seeing Fate’s tears, his anger immediately disappeared and was replaced with pity and understanding.

Michael lovingly took Fate into his arms. He gently embraced her as if to comfort her.

“It’s all right. I was just carried away. Please don’t cry. You know I hate seeing you crying. So please stop . . . okay,” Michael tried to comfort Fate.

“I’m so stupid Michael. . . I’m so stupid!” Fate uttered as she continued to cry.

“Fate . . . I know Max loves you. So you don’t have anything to be worried about. You just have to believe in him . . . Just continue to take care of him. . . and love him . . . and everything will be all right,” Michael said with such warmth and love.

After hearing those words, Fate finally broke down into an uncontrollable cry.

Another two days passed . . . .

The race was getting nearer but Fate couldn’t concentrate on her practice. She was always staring blankly at everything and everyone.

Her strange behavior was already being noticed by everyone in the team.

“Fate . . . are you sure you can drive? Do you want to back out the race? Just tell me and I’ll help you,” Michael asked with worry.

Fate tried to smile. “I’m fine, Michael. Don’t worry about me.”

Michael stared at Fate for a few seconds. He wanted to say something but someone suddenly called him.

Fate smiled at Michael again. “Go . . . I think someone needs to talk to you. I’m fine . . . Just go. . .”

A few minutes after Michael left, Fate’s phone suddenly rang.

Fate excitedly took out her phone from her pocket. She already knew who it was . . . . It was Max.

“Hello . . . Max?” she uttered with a weak and nervous voice.

“Fate . . . I’m at the apartment. Do you think you can come here?” Max asked coldly.

Fate instantly felt the cold and angry tone in Max’s voice. Somehow she wanted to say that she couldn’t come and she was in the middle of practice for the race. But her heart was screaming his name that somehow she couldn’t say no.

“Fate . . . are you there?’ Max asked.

“Uhmm . . . yes . . . I’ll be there after an hour. I still have a practice to attend to,” she was finally able to say out loud.

“Oh . . . is that so? So you mean your practice is more important than me now?” Max asked as if he was hurt.

“Max . . . it’s not like that . . . But you know the race is just . . .” she was trying to explain.

“Look . . . if you don’t want to come, just say so. You don’t have to make up such lame excuses. I’ll just find myself another girl,” Max said angrily.

“Max . . . don’t be mad please . . . okay. I’ll go there . . . Just give me half an hour,” Fate quickly uttered.

“Okay . . . just make sure you hurry,” Max uttered.

“Yes, I’ll hurry,” Fate replied as she quickly closed her phone. She then hurriedly ran to where Michael was.

“Michael . . . I need to go,” she said.

Michael quickly stared at Fate. “Why? What’s wrong?”

“I just need to go Michael . . . please,” Fate begged.

“Fine . . . go . . . Just make sure that you go back to the hotel before midnight. We still have an early meeting tomorrow,” Michael said as he tried to act calm.

Fate nodded and then smiled. “Thank you. . . . Promise I’ll go home early.”

Michael just sadly stared at Fate as she hurriedly left the racing track.

He already knew the reason why Fate suddenly left. It could only be one reason . . . . . It was all because of Max.

CHAPTER 18

Fate hurriedly went to the boys’ apartment. She didn’t want Max to get more upset. Somehow she wanted to make up for whatever wrong thing she did that made him angry with her.

As she nervously approached the boys’ apartment, she was trying to think of a good topic to talk about with Max.

She was already in front of the door, when she noticed that it wasn’t locked. She immediately went into the apartment thinking that maybe Max had really left it open for her.

And as soon as she entered the living room, shock and anger quickly filled her heart and soul.

Max was on the sofa . . . kissing the young dancer he was flirting with in the studio a few days ago.

Fate felt like her heart was instantly crushed. “Max!” she shouted.

Max suddenly stopped kissing the girl, and coldly gave Fate a blank stare.

“Max, what are you doing?” Fate asked with a quivering voice. She was trying very hard to stop herself from crying.

Max smiled. “Can’t you see what I’m doing? Do I have to spell it out for you?” he asked with a cold and maddening smile on his lips.

“Max, why are you doing this to me? Why are you hurting me?” Fate continuously asked.

“Why? Maybe you should ask yourself that question?” Max replied with anger.

“Why . . . Max? What have I done to deserve this?” Fate asked with tears already forming in her eyes.

The female dancer slowly stood up from the sofa, then looked at Fate. She then started to arrange herself and her things.

“Max, I’m leaving. I think the two of you should talk. If you need me again, just call me . . . But please next time you contact me again . . . make sure that you’re no longer attached to someone. Choose Max . . . it’s me or her,” the dancer uttered as she walked out of the room.

Fate just stared and stood aside as the girl left. She couldn’t understand why she couldn’t force herself to be mad with the girl. Somehow she was thinking that the dancer was just caught in the middle of everything that was happening. . . and whatever she saw wasn’t her fault . . .

As soon as Fate and Max were left alone in the room . . .

“Max, please tell me what have I done to make you hate me this much?” Fate finally uttered as tears were already flowing from her eyes.

Max stood up and angrily looked at Fate. “Do you really want to know what you did? Are you prepared to tell me the truth . . . if I tell you what is bothering me . . . what is making me insane these passed few days?”

“Yes . . . I will tell you whatever it is you want to know. You know I don’t lie to you,” Fate answered in between sobs.

“You never lied to me? How I wish I can believe that,” he uttered as he bitterly smiled to hide the pain he was feeling.

“Max . . .” Fate uttered his name again.

Max slowly approached Fate. And as soon as he was standing next to her, he quickly took her into his arms and started to kiss her.

“Max . . . what are you doing?” Fate cried out as she tried to break free of his grasp.

Max continued to passionately kiss Fate on her neck, and as he kissed her, his hand was already starting to open the buttons on the blouse she was wearing.

Fate tried to stop Max. She was totally confused on why he was acting so strange.
She didn’t want something to happen between them again. She wasn’t prepared for the consequences. She wanted to clear up the misunderstanding between them first.

“Max, please stop,” Fate slowly begged in a low voice.

Max quickly stopped and stared at Fate. Anger was visible in his eyes.

“Why? Why do you want me to stop? Am I not good enough for you? Am I not a good kisser? Am I not turning you on? . . . Is Michael a better kisser than me? Did you sleep with him already? Was he good in bed? How many times have you guys made love? Did he satisfy you?” Max asked as if he was going mad.

Suddenly . . . Fate gave Max a hard slap on the face. She was totally caught by surprise by her own action.

“Max . . .” Fate uttered in complete shock and horror. She didn’t know why she slapped him. But he was already saying too many hurtful words, she tried to reason in her mind.

Max smiled. “You’re surprised? Yes, I know. I saw the two of you kissing in the parking area of the race track. You made a total fool out of me, Fate. How could you? You said you loved me . . . so why?” he uttered as tears streamed down his face.

“Max, please let me explain. What you saw . . . it is all just a misunderstanding. Yes, Michael kissed me. And I am sorry, that I didn’t even try to stop him. But you see . . . I was somehow scared to hurt his feelings,” Fate tried to give her side.

“You didn’t want to hurt his feelings? What about my feelings?” Max shouted.

“Max, Michael is just my friend. . . He can never take your place. Please just forgive me . . . I know it was all my fault. I should have stopped him. But . . . but. . . I was too weak at that time,” Fate uttered.

“Get out!” Max screamed.

“Max?” Fate asked in total shock. “What are you saying? Can’t you forgive me?”

Max stared at Fate with such cold eyes that somehow it could easily break through ice. “No!” he uttered as he quickly turned his back on her.

“Max, wait please . . . Please forgive me . . . I love you Max,” Fate uttered as she started to cry uncontrollably.

She hurriedly rushed to Max’s side. She tried to touch his arm, but he quickly brushed her hand away.

“Leave Fate. I don’t want to see you ever again. You already broke my heart. I don’t think I can ever forgive you. So let’s just break up. It is better for the both of us. I don’t want you to stay near me . . . because I am afraid I might just end up hurting you more. So please just leave. Let’s end this,” Max uttered as he tried to hide his face that was already covered with tears.

“No, Max. I . . . I love you,” Fate uttered with tears streaming down her face.

Max tried hard not to look at Fate. He was already hurting so much and seeing her cry was making everything much harder.

“Leave!” Max shouted as he violently shoved Fate away from him.

Fate continued to cry uncontrollably.

Max quickly turned away and went straight to his room.

“Leave Fate. I’m sorry but I can’t love you anymore,” he uttered with tears already clouding his eyes.

As Max slowly closed the door behind him, he could still hear the heartbreaking cry that Fate made. His heart was breaking into a million pieces as well. How he wanted to stop her from crying and comfort her. But then it would all be just a lie. He was angry with her and somehow he didn’t know how to forgive. . . and forget. So it was better this way. . . It was better for them to just part and go their separate ways.

Feeling weak, Max leaned on the door of his room. . . and slowly he wept.

“I’m sorry, Fate. I’m sorry. . .Even though I still love you . . .the fact remains . . . I don’t know how to forgive you,” he uttered.

And while Max cried inside his room, Fate continued to cry out in the living room.

“I love you Max . . . Please forgive me . . .” Fate continuously begged. She was already down on her knees. Somehow all her strength had disappeared and she was already feeling very lost and weak. She continued to cry and sob uncontrollably. “Why Max? Why? Why did we have to end this way?”

CHAPTER 19

Another week passed . . . .

Fate was already finished with her practice for the big race. The date of the race was suddenly moved to a much earlier date. So she had been practicing more seriously for the passed few days.

Unknown to her friends and especially Michael, she had another reason why she had been practicing almost non-stop from the morning until evening. She wasn’t practicing because of the race . . . but because she wanted to forget . . . someone.

She stared at the race track. And even though she was looking at it, somehow she was seeing something else.

“Max,” she uttered. “What are you doing now? Are you still angry with me? I miss you Max . . . I miss you so much,” she said in a low voice.

Fate was thinking so deeply that she didn’t even realize that Michael was already sitting beside her.

“Talk to me,” he unexpectedly uttered.

Surprised, Fate quickly looked at him.

“Michael, what are you doing here? Are you already finished?” she asked.

Michael shook his head. “ I already finished more than an hour ago.”

“An hour ago? Hmm . . . sorry . . . I didn’t notice,” she said with a low voice.

Michael slowly stared at Fate again. This time he tried to study her reaction.

“I know something’s bothering you. Why won’t you tell me? Maybe I can help,” he uttered softly.

Fate tried to smile. “I am afraid my problem is already way beyond help. It’s already done and . . . over.”

Michael frowned. “What do you mean? Does it have something to do with Max?”

Fate continued to stare out at the race track. She sighed and then nodded. She knew it was time to face reality. She needed to accept that it was really over. She needed to learn how to move on.

“We’re over . . . Michael,” she uttered while trying to control her voice. Somehow just saying those words was enough to make her cry.

Surprised . . . Michael quickly looked at Fate. “Over? What do you mean? As in . . . . break-up?” he asked, still unable to believe what he just heard.

Fate smiled. “Yes, we’re over. We broke up . . . It’s already been a week. I guess it’s time for me to accept it. You see, I’ve been trying to deny it. Deep down inside, I was still hoping . . . that he would come back to me. Somehow I was still praying that he would learn how to forgive me,” she uttered as tears finally found their way out of her eyes.

Michael was shocked. He didn’t know what else to say. He wanted to comfort her but he didn’t know how.

“But why?” he found himself asking out loud.

Fate shook her head. “The reason why we broke up doesn’t matter now. He didn’t trust me enough. And he didn’t believe in my words. . . And I actually thought that I already knew him, I guess I was wrong. I was very . . . very wrong.”

“But how could he do that? After you slept with him . . . you’re just going to let him leave you?” Michael uttered with anger in his voice.

Fate looked at Michael. “What do you want me to do? Do you want me to stay with him . . . even though we are already hurting each other? Is that what you want? I no longer care about what happened between us. I will just consider it as a bad dream . . . a very bad dream . . . that I need to erase from my mind.”

Michael stayed silent. He was totally left speechless by Fate’s words.

“Michael . . .” Fate suddenly uttered.

“What?” he asked back in a very soft and gentle voice.

“After the race . . . do you think you can accompany on a trip?” she suddenly asked.

Michael nodded his head. “You know I would gladly go anywhere with you.”

“Thank you . . . I think I really need to rest for a while once the race is over. I want to go somewhere and try to forget. I want to start over . . .” she uttered with so much sadness that it was breaking Michael’s heart.

“Don’t worry . . . I will help you. No matter what happens . . . I will always be beside you,’ Michael uttered as he gently took Fate into his arms.

Fate didn’t react to what Michael did. Somehow she needed it. Somehow she needed someone at that exact time. She slowly closed her eyes and silently wept while Michael tightly held her in his arms.

Days passed . . .

The day of the race finally came . . . .

The DBSK boys were all in the dressing room of a studio. They were getting ready for a TV performance when . . . .

“Hey, turn on the TV. The race is about to begin. I am really curious who is going to win,” one of the studio staff uttered to another studio crew,

“I hope Fate wins. I bet she’s going to be the winner,” one of the female staff members suddenly voiced out.

Micky, Jaejoong, U-Know and Xiah just stayed quiet while they tried to observe Max’s reaction to the things they were all hearing.

Max tried to ignore everything he was hearing and just played with his phone. He was trying very hard to pretend that he didn’t care anymore.

Jaejoong shook his head in dismay. “What a big waste,” he couldn’t help but utter. He still couldn’t accept what Max did. Somehow he was thinking that Max could have just learned how to forgive Fate. All of them knew that Max still loved Fate dearly, and that he was just trying to act tough, but deep down inside he was already hurting.

Jaejoong thought that Max could have just forgiven Fate and then they could have just started over. So in this way, both of them wouldn’t be hurting so much. Unknown to his friends, he had been searching news about Fate ever since she and Max broke up. Somehow he wanted to see if she was also affected the same way that Max was. And based on what he had read on news articles, he could easily say that Fate was also trying very hard to forget. He had read that Fate had been practicing day and night on the race track as soon as the two broke up.

Xiah sighed. “What do we do with that guy?” he asked the other DBSK members while pertaining to Max.

Max was in a corner of the room, trying to busy himself with the game in his phone.

U-Know shrugged his shoulders. “What can we do? It’s his life . . . and his decision.”

“I still think he made a wrong decision. He’s a fool to have just broken up with her like that . . . “ Jaejoong couldn’t help but say.

“We don’t have any right to make decisions for him. He’s already old enough to know what he wants and what he needs to do. If he already decided to break it off with her, then we should just respect that,” Micky uttered.

“He’s a fool. Look at him now. He’s hurting and she’s hurting as well,” Jaejoong voiced out.

“He’s our friend. Let’s just respect his decision,” Micky uttered again.

“I still think they could have solved their problem in another way,” Jaejoong uttered with a sigh.

Suddenly one of the TV crew walked into the room . . . He was busy chatting with a younger man.

“I heard that Fate’s team will immediately leave the country as soon as the race is over. And there’s also a rumor going around that both Michael and Fate have dropped out of the next race that they were supposed to join. I think that race is supposed to be held in Germany,” the older man said while arranging some studio materials in the room.

“Really? Wonder why? Hey, isn’t Fate supposed to be Max’s girlfriend? Whatever happened to them?” the younger man suddenly asked without thinking.

Max then suddenly stood up and threw his phone on the table near him. He was obviously very irritated. The phone made a big crashing sound that caught everyone’s attention.

Both the older and younger man exchanged glances with each other. They had totally forgotten that Max was in the room. Embarrassed, they quickly left the room.

“Max, that was rude,” U-Know said in an angry manner.

“Rude? You’re talking about being rude? They’re the ones who started it first,” Max answered with irritation.

Xiah, Jaejoong and U-Know just shook their heads in dismay. Somehow they couldn’t understand their friend anymore. He had totally changed into someone they didn’t know.

Suddenly their attention was drawn to the TV . . . a big news was being broadcasted live.

“This just came in a few minutes ago. . . . Fate Nakamura just finished first place in the big race today. But there is a big commotion in the race track now. It seems as soon as she stepped out of the car, she instantly collapsed. One of our fellow reporters is already in the hospital where she was brought. Please stay tune for additional updates regarding this shocking news,” the TV reporter announced.

CHAPTER 20

“Congratulations,” the doctor happily uttered.

Fate looked at the doctor, quite puzzled. “Congratulations on what … doctor?” she asked curiously.

“You know you should take better care of yourself, especially now . . . that you’re carrying a child,” the doctor said again.

“What? Can you please repeat that again,” Michael who was sitting beside Fate’s bed suddenly said in complete disbelief.

The doctor smiled. “I said congratulations… Fate’s two weeks pregnant.”

Fate was instantly stunned. Somehow she couldn’t believe what she just heard. She looked at Michael, then at the doctor again. “I . . . I’m pregnant?” she asked with a quivering voice.

The doctor laughed. “Yes, don’t worry about the baby. We already made a thorough examination on you. Both you and the baby are quite fine . . . But the continuous lack of sleep and rest because of your job may become very unhealthy for the child you’re carrying. So I suggest that you stop racing for a while . . . Not permanently of course, but until you give birth . . .”

Fate felt like she was floating in thin air. She couldn’t explain what she was feeling. It was like she couldn’t really determine whether she was conscious or not. All the things she heard had totally shaken her up.

Michael noticed the blank expression on Fate’s face. “Fate, are you all right?

The doctor stared at Fate with a confused look on his face. Somehow he was puzzled why Fate was quite shocked with her pregnancy.

“I’ll be leaving now. I think the two of you need to talk. Michael, please make sure she takes the medicine I gave before she goes to bed,” the doctor said softly.

Michael just nodded his head. “Thank you doctor.”

Minutes passed . . . Fate and Michael were finally alone in the room.

“Fate,” Michael uttered again with concern.

“Michael, what should am I going to do now?” Fate asked in total confusion.

“First, you’ve got to talk to Max. You’ve got to tell him about the child,” Michael answered immediately.

“No,” Fate uttered. “We already broke up. Why should I tell him about the baby?”

Michael lightly shook his head. “So what if the two of you broke up? This isn’t about just the two of you anymore . . . this already involves another living being . . . a being the two of you created . . . together. So he has a right to know Fate.”

Fate looked at Michael with a pitiful look on her face. “But I’m scared. What now? I thought my life would somehow return to normal . . . But now I guess . . . it will never be the same again.”

Michael quickly sat down beside Fate and gently drew her closer.

“Don’t worry. No matter what happens. I will always be by your side. I will help you to get through this,” he lovingly uttered.

“I . . . I don’t know what to do Michael. How can I be pregnant? We just spent one night together. . . just one night. And now . . . I’m pregnant? How can that be?” Fate asked while tears were already falling.

Michael sighed. Fate was still so innocent. Somehow she didn’t understand the seriousness of sleeping with someone.

“Sometimes . . . just one night is enough Fate. You don’t have to be surprised about it. You’re already old enough to have thought about the consequences that may arise from your actions,” Michael said seriously.

Fate continued to cry. She knew quite well. . . She knew and she still listened to her heart and not to her mind.

------Days passed….

Micky and Xiah were in the living of their apartment watching a movie. It was their day off. Luckily they suddenly had a whole day without any scheduled activities. They were actually supposed to have an interview that day but it was cancelled a day before. So they were finally free . . . to do anything they wanted.

“I have been dreaming of a day off for such a very long time now. Now… it is finally here,” Xiah said with laughter as he happily moved up his legs on the couch.

Micky laughed. He was sitting in another chair near where Xiah was. “Well we all have been waiting for a vacation for a long time now. A day without any work can’t still be considered a vacation … But I guess, better to have this than nothing at all.”

It was then that Jaejoong suddenly appeared. “Move,” he uttered to Xiah.

Xiah looked at Jaejoong, somehow puzzled with the strange look on Jaejoong’s face.

“What’s wrong?” Xiah asked Jaejoong.

Jaejoong suddenly pouted. “Better ask Max that question. I have been totally patient with him for the passed few days . . . But now a whole day with him is totally ruining my mood.”

Micky exchanged glances with Xiah. “Why? What did he do now?”

“He just threw out a magazine I was reading . . . all because Fate was on the cover,” Jaejoong said with irritation.

“Uhmm . . . Fate again? Speaking about Fate . . . do you guys have any news regarding about her condition? I sure hope that she’s already discharged from the hospital,” Micky said softly as if afraid the Max would hear what he was saying.

Jaejoong and Xiah both shook their heads.

“Nope, sorry no news about her. I was kind of looking for some news online about her. But it’s like after she won the race . . . everything about her was suddenly forgotten. Not even a single report about her was made on TV ever since,” Xiah uttered.

“Weird . . .” Micky uttered.

“Yeah, totally weird… That’s the total description for Max,” Jaejoong said again. He was still furious about what Max did.

“I am really curious as to what happened to Fate. I hope she’s fine now,” Micky uttered again.

“Max should have at least sent a get well card or something. I really wanted to visit her in the hospital. But I was more concerned about Max’s feelings. So I just decided to send her a bouquet of flowers,” Jaejoong said.

Micky somehow smiled bitterly. “You can’t expect Max to just show up in the hospital . . . when he already broke up with her. And sending a card is not really a good idea either. All of us should just accept everything . . . as it is.”

Jaejoong sighed. “He’s a fool to have let her go. He will never find another girl like her. I still think he made a mistake. It’s obvious that he’s still hurting because of her. If I were him . . . I would just set aside my pride and just forget everything and just start over.”

“Easy for you to say . . . because you’re not in his place. You can tell me that again . . . when you are already in the same situation,” Micky said with a serious tone.

“Oohhh…. I am so irritated with him. Imagine I just bought that magazine yesterday,” Jaejoong couldn’t help but utter.

Xiah suddenly laughed. “Don’t worry about that magazine. I will just buy you a new one. And this time . . . make sure that Max doesn’t see it.”

“See what?” U-Know suddenly asked. He immediately sat down between Jaejoong and Xiah.

Xiah laughed lightly. “Jaejoong is mad with Max because Max threw out his magazine. I said that I would just buy him another one. He just needs to make sure that Max won’t see it again.”

“Oh . . . so where is Max . . . by the way? I haven’t seen him since breakfast,” U-Know asked.

“He’s in his room again. . . . Trying to make him self busy with the computer again,” Jaejoong answered.

“No, I’m not. I am already here,” a voice suddenly uttered.

Xiah, Micky, Jaejoong and U-Know suddenly looked at where the voice came from. Max was already standing in front of them with a smile on his face.

“Wipe that grin off your face. You look a devil,” Jaejoong uttered with irritation.

“Sorry hyung,” Max pleaded. “Look I know I was wrong. I’ll just buy you a new one. But can you just pick another magazine?”

Jaejoong looked at Max, but quickly looked in another direction. He was still angry, no matter what he said.

Suddenly all of them heard the door bell ringing….

“I’ll get it,” Max said with a smile.

And as soon as he opened the door, a familiar face quickly came into view.

“Fate,” Max uttered as soon as he saw her. “What are you doing here?” he asked with anger in his voice.

“Please we need to talk,” she uttered with determination.

“I don’t want to talk to you anymore,” Max said as he was about to close the door again.

But Fate immediately pushed the door open and quickly went inside the apartment. She then went straight to the living room.

Xiah, Micky, Jaejoong and U-Know were all shocked after seeing Fate enter the room.

“Fate . . . how? Why?” Jaejoong uttered in confusion.

“Fate . . . I want you to leave,” Max shouted.

“No. I came here for a reason. And I am not leaving until you hear me out,” she said bravely.

Max looked at Fate. He knew that there wasn’t any way he could easily make her leave. He then sighed.

“Fine. What do you want? Just say what you’re going to say . . . then leave,” Max said arrogantly.

“Max . . . Max . . . take me back . . . please,” Fate uttered in a low voice. Somehow she felt so degraded and small just by saying those words.

Max was shocked. “What?”

But Fate was determined. It wasn’t about her dignity or pride anymore, it was about a baby’s future.

“Take me back. I am willing to do anything. Just take me back,” Fate repeated as she slowly went down on her knees in front of Max.

Max couldn’t believe what he just heard and saw. Somehow he could never imagine that Fate could do something so pitiful as to beg someone.

Max looked away. Somehow his heart was aching.

“Fate, don’t do this. Come on . . . Stand up,” Jaejoong uttered as he tried to make Fate stand up.

Fate shook her head. “I won’t stand until Max agrees with what I want. Look, I don’t care if you already have a new girlfriend. I am willing to be just your second choice. I don’t care if you treat me like dirt, just as long as I’m near you. I can’t live without you. I am willing to do anything just to prove to you how much I love you. . . Even if it means pushing myself to the lowest level,” she said softly with her head bent down. Somehow she wanted to cry. She felt like the whole world had just started laughing at her.

Max looked at Fate again. A sharp pain quickly crossed his heart.

“Fine, I’ll take you back . . . on one condition,” he quickly uttered.

Fate looked up at Max. “What . . . what is your condition?” she asked curiously.

“I want you to make a formal announcement that you will be quitting the racing world . . . for good,” he said with the most evil smile.

Fate smiled bitterly. “If that is what you want . . . I will arrange it as soon as possible. If I do it . . . are you sure . . . you will take me back? I want you to promise.”

“I promise . . . just make sure you do exactly what I want,” Max answered.

Fate nodded. Then slowly stood up. She then slowly bowed down her head in front of the other DBSK boys. “I’m sorry if I caused any trouble. Please forgive me,” she uttered.

Jaejoong couldn’t stand the site of Fate being so degraded. “Stop it, Fate. Give yourself some dignity,” he uttered with irritation.

Fate bit her lower lip to stop herself from crying. Somehow what Jaejoong said made a sharp pain in her heart.

She knew this was the start of a more painful path. But she needed to take it . . . for her baby’s sake. She needed Max beside her. And she wanted him to take her back, on his own without any pressure regarding the baby. So she decided to keep it a secret until he fully forgives and accepts her again.

Fate closed her eyes . . . she knew more pain was coming . . .

CHAPTER 21

“So are you happy now?” Micky asked Max as he slowly closed the TV. It was only a day after Fate had announced that she was retiring from racing. . . but she was already the topic of almost all the sports news and stations.

Everyone was giving out reactions and comments. But all in all, the effect was really bad. A lot of Fate’s sponsors and followers were shocked at first but later were dismayed with her decision. All of them were giving out different speculations as to Fate’s real reason for quitting.

“So are you happy?” Jaejoong repeated with an angry tone.

Max slowly looked at his friend. He had managed to hide the emotions that were locked deep inside of him. He was able to put on a cold façade without any difficulty.

Jaejoong shook his head in disbelief. He couldn’t understand what had happened to Max. He had totally transformed into a person that was totally despicable. “You’re beginning to go beyond the limits, Max. I just wish that you won’t pay such a high price for all the wrong things that you are doing now.”

“Wrong doing? I am not doing anything wrong, hyung,” Max uttered.

Jaejoong looked at Max, quite shocked. “You still think that what you are doing is right? For god’s sake, open up your eyes. You’re not only hurting yourself. . . but Fate as well. You’re destroying her. Is that the way you love someone Max? We can all see that you still love her. It’s just that . . . your stupid pride is stopping you from learning how to forgive. She’s given up her dream for you. And you still treat her like dirt. Have a conscience Max. She’s a human being . . . not a toy.”

Max quickly stood up. He didn’t want to argue with Jaejoong. He knew that he was right. But he was too hurt. Somehow he wanted to be alone again. At least, that way he didn’t need to answer all the questions that his friends were throwing at him.

“Max. . . where are you going?” Jaejoong asked. “I am not yet finished talking to you,” he said with more irritation

“I am going to my room. I don’t want to argue with anyone. So I’ll just stay away from your sight for a while,” Max answered with a low voice.

As soon as Max left . . . .

“U-Know, maybe you can talk and put some sense into that guy,” Jaejoong said as he pertains to Max.

U-Know let out a long sigh. “I think even if we talk to him a million times, it would still be useless. It’s like he’s totally shut out his common sense and let his anger control everything. Judging by the way he talks and acts now . . I can say that he’s totally out of control.”

“He’s really getting on my nerves already. A little more and I might end up blowing up right on his face,” Jaejoong said with irritation.

Micky couldn’t help but laugh a bit. “Why are you so affected Jae? Don’t tell me that you’re falling for Fate as well?” he teased.

Jaejoong shot Micky a cold stare. “Just because someone is nice to a girl doesn’t necessarily mean a romantic connection . . . I just pity her, that’s all. Whenever I look at her. . . I couldn’t help but think what if . . . one of my sisters was in her position. Surely I would have rearranged Max’s face already. Just to shake his head a bit and make him think straight already.”

U-Know laughed as well. “You sure are very protected of your sisters huh?” then his expression changed into a serious one. “But honestly I feel the same way too. When I see Fate, I can’t help but think about my younger sister as well. I just hope that Max can realize his mistake already and just get over his broken heart and pride.”

Xiah sighed. “He’s totally blinded. We can’t really expect him to do the right thing now. All he can think about is getting even. Frankly I am quite surprised that all he is getting even with is Fate. He doesn’t even do anything to Michael. Quite unfair . . . but totally understandable. He has a hurting soul right now . . . So we can’t really judge him that easily.”

“Let’s just leave him alone for now. I think he will change his mind sooner or later,” Micky uttered.

“I just hope that he does change his attitude before it’s too late. I really have a bad feeling about what he’s doing. I hope my feeling is wrong,” Jaejoong uttered with worry.

Xiah gave Jaejoong a confused look. “Why? What do you mean?”

Jaejoong just shrugged his shoulders. “Well if Max doesn’t change in due time . . . I think something bad will happen . . . something that he will regret for the rest of his life.”

“What?” Xiah asked again.

“I don’t really know, somehow I just feel something is coming. . . I really wish that I am wrong,” Jaejoong uttered.

Xiah couldn’t help shiver in fear. “You’re making me scared, hyung. Please don’t say such things.”

U-Know laughed. “Let’s just change the topic. I really don’t like talking about bad things like that. Let’s just hope and pray that Max will change in due time. And let’s just keep on reminding him about what he should be doing.”

“Agreed,” Xiah uttered as he nodded.

It was then the door bell started ringing . . . .

“I’ll get it,” Jaejoong uttered as he quickly stood up and went to the front door.

In a few minutes, Jaejoong entered the living room together with Fate.

“Fate,” the other DBSK boys uttered.

“Hello. Am I disturbing?” she asked with a smile. Somehow her sweet smile was hiding something.

“Come on . . . sit,” Jaejoong uttered.

Fate nodded and sat down on one of the chairs near where Jaejoong was sitting.

“Where’s Max?” she curiously asked.

“Locked up in his room,” Jaejoong replied with irritation.

“Why? Is something wrong? Is he all right?” she asked again with concern.

“Why are you so nice to him. . . when he’s so harsh on you? And shouldn’t we be the ones asking you. . . if you are all right,” Jaejoong uttered seriously.

Fate lowered her head. “I’m all right,” she answered with a weak voice.

“No, you’re not. Just be honest okay,” Jaejoong uttered again.

Fate sighed. “Okay . . . Fine . . . I’m not all right. A lot of people are mad at me right now. . . because of what I did. Many people are actually affected by my decision. And because of me a lot of people will be losing their jobs.”

“Oh, I am sorry to hear that,” Jaejoong uttered softly. “But you should have expected it . . . since you know how your life is linked up to a lot of people. . . Just like us, our lives are in constant link to the people who we all work with everyday.”

Fate nodded. “I know. But . . . but . . . Oh, let’s just changed the conversation for now please.”

“Very well. So why did you come here? Do you need to see Max? Would you like me to call him?” U-Know asked.

Fate stared at Jaejoong with sad eyes. “Frankly I just wanted some company. . . someone I can talk to . . . Michael just went to Germany yesterday. So I am alone in the hotel right now.”

“How can he leave you . . . when you’re facing a problem? What kind of a friend is that,” Xiah uttered.

Fate just let out a long sigh. “Well the reason why he went to Germany is to fix the problem I have there. You see, I have a sponsor who is going to sue me. I totally forgot that I had a contract with a certain company . . . My sudden retiring is in clear violation of my contract with them. Michael volunteered to go there . . . to fix the problem.”

“Oh, so this thing that Max made you did is really making such a big fuss in your life right now. Why did you agree in the first place? Don’t tell me . . . you haven’t thought about the consequences,” Micky uttered.

She then smiled bitterly. “I did think about all the consequences. But he’s more important to me right now. And I am willing to trade my career and even my future for him.”

Micky just shook his head. “I really can’t understand what is going on. How come you can easily trade your career for Max . . . but . . . tell me . . . what is your connection with Michael?. Is he really just your friend or something more? And how come Max saw the two of you kissing each other on the parking lot. What is the story about that?”

Fate was shocked with Micky’s question. “What?”

“Micky! You have no right to ask that,” Jaejoong uttered angrily.

“Micky, I think you should apologize. We don’t have the right to ask such personal questions,” U-Know said as well.

Micky gave Fate a quick look and just lowered his head. “I’m sorry. I guess I was going to far.”

“Max told you? . . . He told all of you? I should have known. He wouldn’t keep secrets from you. . . Micky, you don’t have to apologize. I know you just want to clear up everything. Look . . . about what Max saw . . . Yes, it is true. He did saw Michael kissing me in the parking lot of the race track. I know I shouldn’t have allowed him to do it. But I . . . I really don’t know what to say or how to justify what I did. . . . That day I just made a big mistake in the race track . . . and it almost cost me my life. Michael was so upset with me at first . . . And then . . . he finally confessed his love for me. He said that while he was watching me as my car was out of control. He was thinking that he didn’t even get the chance to tell me that he loved me. So after that incident and I was able to pull through my little mistake on the race track. Michael and I had a talk on the parking lot, and that was when he confessed and kissed me. I didn’t know that Max was there and that he saw us. I guess that it was the main reason why he hates me right now. He’s thinking that I cheated on him and that I just played around with him. I know I shouldn’t have allowed Michael to kiss me . . . But at that moment, I was shocked and I didn’t know how to react without hurting his feelings and how to do it in a way that our friendship wouldn’t be affected. I know I have such silly reasons . . . But please believe me . . . that I really love Max. And I am willing to do anything just to make him love me back.”

“Oh, so that’s the whole story? Thank you for telling us,” Jaejoong uttered.

“You know . . . losing a love one’s trust is really hard to get back. You will really need to work hard . . . and if you did manage to get it back . . . there is still the chance that it won’t be the same like it was before,” Micky uttered.

“I know. But I will try and try until I get back what I lost,” Fate replied.

“Well we are all here . . . and if you need our help. . . Don’t be afraid to ask,” U-Know added.

Fate stared at the other DBSK boys. She was deeply touched by their actions. “Thank you for being so nice. I just wish that I would really be able to make him forgive me and love me again.” She uttered with a heavy heart.

It was then that Max entered the room. . . . “Oh, you’re here,” he uttered with a cold expression on his face.

“Hello Max, “ Fate uttered with a smile.

“Oh, I was about to call you. But good thing, you’re here already. Do you think you can fix my room for me?” Max asked politely.

Fate was somehow shocked with Max’s sudden change. “Oh . . . okay,” she managed to utter.

“Max, you’re asking her to clean your room? Isn’t that too much already? She’s not your maid,” Jaejoong said with a raised tone.

Fate worriedly looked at Jaejoong. “Jae, it’s all right. I don’t have anything to do anyway. So please . . . don’t argue anymore okay.”

Jaejoong sighed. “Fine, whatever you say.”

Max smiled mischievously. “Well while you’re cleaning, I will go out for a while. See you tonight,” he said as he then gave Fate a quick kiss on the cheek.

Fate was again left speechless and wondering. “Has he forgiven me? Why do I feel like everything is so easy? Why do I fear the fact that he is being nice to me? Why . . . . Why am I suddenly more afraid of him now? What is going to happen next?”

CHAPTER 22

“You know you shouldn’t do this,” Jaejoong said as he watched Fate carefully fold and arrange some of Max’s clothes on the bed.

Fate tried to smile. “It’s okay. At least, he’s already trying to be civil with me,” she tried to lie.

Jaejoong shook his head. “Somehow whenever I look at you, I can’t stop thinking about my sisters. I can’t help but think I would do if they were in your situation,” he tried to say.

Fate looked at him, then smiled sweetly. “Your sisters are quite lucky. They have such a sweet and kind-hearted brother. Thank you for being so concerned about me.”

“Are you really willing to be treated like this? I mean . . . you just threw away your career for him. And now . . . he’s treating you like you’re his maid or something. I wouldn’t be surprised if he suddenly tells you to do another ridiculous act. Please when that time comes. . . promise me . . . you’ll learn to say no. It’s for your own good, you know,” Jaejoong said with concern.

Fate smiled bitterly. “Do you know I never thought I would be able to exchange my career with anything . . . especially for someone. I always thought that my career would always come in first place in my life . . . I guess I was wrong.”

“I . . . I’m sorry to say this . . . but I don’t think he’s forgiven you yet. I think he’s just playing around with you,” Jaejoong said softly. “I know I shouldn’t be saying these kinds of things about him since he’s my friend. But I really pity you. I don’t want to see you suffer so much just for his sake.”

Fate nodded her head and smiled. “You don’t have to say it. I already know. But I am still hopeful that he will be able to forgive me. I know all of this was my fault in the first place. So I am willing to suffer . . . I just wish that he could find it in his heart to actually forgive me before . . .” she then suddenly stopped talking. She had almost blurted her secret.

“Before what?” Jaejoong asked curiously.

Fate smiled. “Nothing. You know you should rest. It’s not like everyday . . . you guys can have some break from all your work,” she said while trying to change the topic.

“Yes, you’re right. I am a little tired. But what about you? Are you really going to clean Max’s room all by yourself?” Jaejoong asked with concern.

“Yes, don’t worry about me. Go on and have some rest. I will be okay here,” she answered.

Jaejoong shook his head and smiled as well. “I don’t think I can sleep anyway. I will just help you clean up.”

Fate looked at him carefully. “You don’t have to worry about me,” she uttered.

“I don’t know why . . . but somehow something inside of me is telling me to help you. Maybe it is because I see one of my sisters in your position. So please don’t stop me from helping you,” Jaejoong said softly.

Fate just lowered her head. “You’re a really very sweet man, Jaejoong. Any woman would be very lucky to have you,” she uttered as somehow her heart ached after remembering the way Max had been treating her. Somehow she started to miss the sweet and caring Max that she fell in love with.

While Fate and Jaejoong continued to talk . . . somewhere . . . in an exclusive bar . . . .

“Are you sure you’re allowed to go out?” Mina asked.

Max just gave her a quick look then carelessly gulped down all the contents of his glass. “I’m allowed to do whatever I want. . . I can do anything I want,” he uttered.

Mina shook her head. “Are you trying to convince me or are you trying to convince yourself? We both know that’s not true. Tell me . . . why did you call me? Are you really free now? I mean . . . you no longer have any relationship with that racer right?”

Max sighed. “Honestly . . . . at the moment . . . I’m not clear about our relationship either . . . I’m sorry. But I said that because I don’t want to lie to you. If you think you can’t be with me because of my current situation . . . you’re free to leave. Right now . . . I just need a friend . . . someone I can talk to. I can’t really offer anything more than friendship,” he said as he poured himself another drink.

The female dancer suddenly smiled. “You know if you were some other guy, I would have left you by now. But I really like your honesty. So I’m going to stay and be your friend for now…”

Max looked at the girl and smiled. “Thank you.”

Mina smiled again. “So it’s really true that you’re having problems with her? You know the two of you have the talk all over the studio and the staff members. The gossips got worse after she suddenly announced that she was leaving the racing world. I was shocked as well . . . Did you have anything to do with that?”

Max nodded. “I asked her to do it,” he simply answered.

Mina also took a sip from her glass. “She must really love you so much . . . to actually drop her career like that. She’s on top and with just one word . . . she just stops and drops everything. You’re quite lucky. Not everyone can do what she did.”

Max suddenly stared at Mina. Somehow what she said made him more confused.
“Tell me . . . can you kiss a guy that you don’t love?”

Mina suddenly let out a light laugh. “What a silly question . . . Of course, the answer is yes. But it depends on the girl . . .”

“For me, I can easily kiss a guy and just forget about it later on. But . . . If I love the guy and I kiss him . . . well that is another thing,” Mina answered.

“I really can’t understand what you mean,” Max uttered.

Mina laughed again. “It’s like this . . . girls can also play around like what boys do. We can kiss and just forget . . . or we can just kiss and dwell on it as much as we want. A girl can kiss a guy even if she doesn’t like him or love him, the same way a guy can kiss a girl whom he just met in a bar. So there’s no difference . . . We’re already living in a modern world Max. Don’t expect too many old traditions to be present in our daily lives. As of now . . . I really don’t believe there is still a girl who is still a virgin at the age of 20 or older . . . That would be totally unbelievable for me. So kissing someone you don’t love is already normal for me,” she uttered again with a laugh. Somehow the wine she was drinking was already taking effect.

Something suddenly started to echo in Max’s mind . . .”She was saving herself . . . all this time and she just gave herself to me . . . maybe she really does love me . . . Maybe I am really just over reacting just like what hyung said.”

Mina stared at Max, then an idea came into her mind. “Max . . .” she uttered.

“Yes?” Max suddenly asked as he tried to focus his attention on Mina.

“Want to play a game?” she asked seductively.

“A game? What kind of game?” he asked.

“The kind of game wherein I can prove to you what I said is true,” she replied with a laugh.

“What do you mean?” Max asked, more confused.

Mina smiled, then quickly leaned over where Max was sitting. She then carefully placed her hand over his neck and quickly gave him a very long and daring kiss.

Max was shocked. But somehow he didn’t know what to do. He was thinking that he couldn’t possibly just push her away. It would be embarrassing for the girl.

As Mina continued to kiss him, Max suddenly realized what kind of situation Fate must have encountered during the time that Michael kissed her. And somehow . . . he started to understand . . .

Unknown to both Mina and Max, a guy had been watching them for quite some time and had just placed his cell phone away. He then hurriedly walked out of the bar with a big grin on his face. “Thank you Max. . . I already have a big news for tomorrow.”

CHAPTER 23

It was already late but Fate still stayed in the DBSK boys’ apartment, waiting patiently for Max.

She looked around the room again. She was trying to search for other things to do. Then she suddenly noticed the top of ht built in bookshelf in a corner of Max’s room.

She smiled and quickly took the chair she was sitting on near the bookshelf. She then slowly started to arrange the books one by one. She was already finished when a heavy book suddenly slipped out of her hand. She tried to catch it but the chair she was standing on unexpectedly turned over.

“Aaaahhhh,” Fate cried out as her body fell hard on the floor.

Jaejoong and U-Know quickly rushed into the room after hearing the loud commotion. Micky and Xiah also followed afterwards.

“Fate,” they both uttered with worry.

Fate somehow felt a throbbing pain in her abdomen. But she tried to hide it.

“Come on. Be careful in standing up,” Jaejoong uttered as he helped her on her feet.

“Jae, let’s put her on the bed first,” U-Know said with concern after noticing the way Fate was limping.

“You should be careful,” Xiah uttered as he slowly took the books that have fallen and placed them back on the bookshelf.

“What were you doing?” Micky asked.

“I was just arranging the books when I tipped over on the chair I was standing on,” Fate replied as she tried to control the growing pain she was feeling. Somehow she didn’t want the other DBSK boys to get concerned about her.

“Are you all right? Are you feeling any pain?” Jaejoong asked.

Fate just shook her head. “No, I am fine. Thank you for all your concern.”

Jaejoong smiled. “You know it’s already late. I think it’s better if you just went home already. I don’t think Max will be home soon.”

U-Know also nodded his head in agreement. “You should have gone home hours ago. You also need to rest. Don’t worry about Max. He’s a big boy already. He can certainly clean up his own room.”

Fate couldn’t help but laugh. “Big boy? Hmm…. I don’t think so. He’s still quite a young boy at heart.”

Micky and Xiah also laughed.

“Yeah, he’s too childish to even be considered a grown-up,” Xiah commented.

“He’s totally way over his head with the way he’s acting. Sometimes I just want to hit him right on his head so he can wake up,” Micky uttered.

Fate just sighed. “Don’t be so cruel with him. It’s still all my fault why he’s like that.”

“He’s just over acting. I really don’t see any sense in the way he’s treating you. I am really angry with the way he’s bossing you around,” Jaejoong said.

“Even though he’s like that … I still love him. And I am willing to wait until he finds it in his heart to forgive me,” Fate uttered with a bitter smile.

Micky and Xiah just shook their heads. They pitied Fate. And they were already getting annoyed with Max. They were thinking that if there was a way they could help, they would have already done it. Somehow they didn’t like seeing Fate so sad.

Minutes passed, Xiah, Micky and U-Know already returned to the living room. They had gone back to watching a TV program. While Jaejoong just stayed in Max’s room to watch over Fate as she slept.

Jaejoong just stared silently. Somehow he didn’t like the way Fate’s face was becoming pale. He carefully stood up and sat on the side of bed and arranged the sheet that was covering Fate’s body.

“You poor thing… I really wish I can help you. I feel so horrible whenever I see Max treating you so badly. Why can’t you just let go of him? He’s just playing around with you… Can’t you see it? Can’t you feel it? Give yourself some dignity. Just leave him. You can find a better man. Someone who will treat you nicely. Someone who will love you without any conditions. Wake up, Fate. Please don’t put yourself into a more shameful condition,” Jaejoong uttered as he stared at her.

“Yes, he can find a better man… someone like you perhaps?” a voice suddenly said.

Jaejoong quickly looked at the direction where the voice came from. “Max,” he uttered.

“Surprised?” Max asked with a sarcastic expression on his face.

Jaejoong just shook his head in dismay. Max was really becoming indespicable.

“You’re late. She’s been waiting for you for hours,” Jaejoong uttered as he quickly left Fate’s side.

“So? I didn’t ask her to wait for me,” Max answered.

Jaejoong shot Max an angry look. “Have a heart Max… You’re becoming a real monster, do you know that?”

Max just let out a short laugh. “Monster? She made me this way.”

“No, she didn’t. You made yourself that way! You’re the only one who can control your life and your actions. So don’t go around blaming her for all the wrong things you have been doing. That’s totally unfair,” Jaejoong said angrily.

Max chuckled. “Why are you so concerned about her hyung? Don’t tell me… you suddenly have feelings for her?”

Jaejoong gave Max a shocked expression. “Are you really that low now? Do you really think that just because I am nice to her…. I am already falling for her? Why don’t you just hit your head on a wall or something? I really think you’re losing it.”

“I was just asking. I seldom see you so concerned about a girl. I just can’t help but wonder I guess,” Max uttered as he slowly sat down on a chair. He then closed his eyes and tried to erase all the things that were running in his mind.

Jaejoong immediately noticed the strange look on Max’s face. “What’s wrong?” he asked. Somehow his anger suddenly diminished.

Max opened his eyes and just smiled. “Nothing. I just feel so tired I guess.”

“Don’t wake her. You can just stay in my room if you want. She fell down while arranging the bookshelf. So we made her rest and go to sleep,” Jaejoong uttered.

“Oh… how is she?” Max asked. Somehow he couldn’t hide the concern in his eyes.

Jaejoong couldn’t help but smile. It was obvious that Max still had feelings for Fate, but was just hiding it.

“She said she’s fine. But I doubt it. I think she’s sick or something. She’s becoming quite pale,” Jaejoong answered.

Max stood up and moved towards the side of the bed. He then carefully touched Fate’s cheek to check if she had a fever.

“She doesn’t seem to have a fever. Maybe she just needs some rest,” Max said as he again stood up and moved away.

“You still love her, and yet you’re making her suffer. When will your revenge end Max? Don’t you think she’s had enough? Have pity on her,” Jaejoong said.

Max looked at his friend. “Honestly, I don’t know what to think anymore,” he replied with a low voice.

Suddenly…

“Max, you need to see this right away,” Xiah shouted as he came barging into the room.

Jaejoong and Max quickly followed Xiah into the living room. Micky and U-Know were watching the TV which was broadcasting an evening news.

“Now back to our top headline news… we have just received this news moments ago. It seems a set of photos are currently sweeping the net right now. And fans of the famous DBSK are quite shocked with the photos posted in more than half of the top online news sites. In the photos, Max… the youngest of the DBSK members is seen kissing one of the back up dancers of the group. Now what is causing the commotion is the fact that Max is currently involved with the racer Fate Nakamura. Some of Fate’s fans are already sending hate comments on DBSK sites specifically for Max. This is really causing such a big commotion in the music and entertainment industry right now.”

Then the TV station started to show Max’s pictures kissing Mina. They were obviously in a bar. And the pictures were obviously very recent.

The other DBSK members were all shocked.

“So is this what you have been doing while Fate was so busy cleaning up your room?” Jaejoong shouted angrily.

“Jae,” U-Know uttered as he tried to control Jaejoong.

“You’re really unbelievable. Just leave her if you don’t want her anymore. You don’t have to go on playing around and cheating on her,” Jaejoong continued,

Max lowered his head in embarrassment. He was totally lost with what to say. He was also shocked after seeing those pictures of him and Mina in the bar.

“Max, what’s going on?” Fate suddenly asked.

Shocked and scared, all the DBSK boys suddenly turned to look at Fate. Micky quickly turned off the TV. He was afraid that Fate might see what was on the news.

Tears were already streaming down from Fate’s eyes. “You don’t have to turn it off Micky… I already saw everything.”

Micky lowered his head. He felt horrible just seeing the pitiful expression on Fate’s face.

“Fate…I … I …” Max tried to utter something but he was totally lost for words. Now it was time for him to be the one at fault.

Fate tried to control her tears. “Don’t worry. You don’t have to say anything. You don’t have to explain a single thing. I… I understand. I… I… I think I should be going now,” she suddenly said as she hurriedly walked out.

Max just stood as if frozen. He wanted to run after her. But he felt he had no right to do so.

“You’re really something. You’re not even going to run after her and try to explain? Way to go, Max. You’ve really turned into a real monster. I hope she just wakes up and leaves you permanently. You don’t deserve her…” Jaejoong said as he stormed out of the room.

U-Know, Micky and Xiah just exchanged glances with each other. They all wanted to say something, but they felt that Jaejoong had already spoken enough for all of them. They also pitied Max in a way. And they could see that he was already in pain as well.

An hour later….

Fate didn’t know how she was able to drive and arrive safely back at the hotel. Somehow both her mind and heart were in total confusion. Tears were clouding her eyes as she hurriedly went to her room.

Once inside… she immediately broke down into an uncontrollable sob. She cried out and screamed. She was hurt so badly that she couldn’t take it anymore. Her whole body trembled as she wept. She finally released all the pain and anger she was feeling.

Suddenly…

“Aaaaahhhh,” Fate cried out in pain. She quickly fell down on her knees and then fell down on the floor. She started to cry out in pain. The throbbing pain in her abdomen was growing with every passing minute.

Half an hour later…

Michael worriedly waited as the manager of the hotel tried to open Fate’s room. He had been calling her for over half an hour, but there was no answer. The receptionist of the hotel already confirmed that she had returned to the hotel. So he decided to ask the help of the hotel staff to open Fate’s room.

He hurriedly went inside the room, the moment it was opened. And he was stunned to see Fate lying in the middle of the living room soaked in a pool of blood. He quickly rushed to her side…

“Fate,” he uttered with fear. He held her in his arms and tried to touch her pale face. “Fate? Please wake up… Don’t scare me please…”

But Fate was already unconscious and very pale. She had lost a lot of blood. And even her breathing was already very slow.

“Help! Someone call an ambulance please,” he quickly called out to the hotel manager.

“Fate, hold on…. Fate…. Don’t let go… I am here. Fate…. Don’t leave me,” Michael cried out as he tightly held on to her cold body.

CHAPTER 24

“Max! Max! You’ve got to see what’s on the news. Hurry,” Micky shouted as he hurriedly opened Max’s room.

Surprised, Max just quickly followed Micky out into the living room.

“This is quite an extraordinary news. Just a few days ago, world famous race car driver Fate Nakamura stunned the whole world when she suddenly announced her retirement from racing. She certainly hit the headlines and made a big commotion not only here in Japan but in other parts of the world as well

And now we have just received a report minutes ago … that Fate Nakamura was again rushed to the hospital. As all of you might recall, she was also brought to the hospital minutes after she won the racing competition held here in Japan. Some say it was because of exhaustion and extreme pressure. But the real cause of her mysterious sickness was never revealed.

Our reporter has already sent us a photo of Fate when she was rushed into the emergency room. But due to the obvious seriousness of her condition, the whole TV management has decided to not show the picture so to avoid creating any unnecessary panic or concern on the part of her followers and fans.

The only detail we can give right now is that Fate was brought to the hospital near the hotel where she is staying about fifteen minutes ago by Michael Smith. The cause of her current condition is still unknown as of the moment.

Please stay tune. We will try to give you more details about this story later on…”

Max stared at the TV screen as if stunned.

“Max! Wake up! Fate’s in the hospital. What are you waiting for? Don’t tell me you’re just going to stand there,” Jaejoong shouted with irritation.

Max looked back at Jaejoong. “Hyung … I… I … Help me. I need to go to the hospital quickly,” he uttered with a shaking voice.

“Come on. I’ll drive,” Micky said as he hurriedly took his car keys from his room.

Half an hour later …

Max’s heart was beating very fast as he hurriedly walked into the hospital. Some of the reporters quickly took notice of him and started to take pictures.

“Max, are you here to see Fate?” a reporter asked.

“What can you say about the speculation that she tried to commit suicide because of the pictures that were released on the net?” another reporter asked boldly.

“What can you say about the picture that were posted on the net? What is your real relationship with the girl you were seen kissing?” another man interrogated Max without any hesitation.

Max just shook his head in confusion. He didn’t know what to say or how to answer the questions that were being thrown at him.

U-Know and Micky quickly took hold of Max.

“Come on, this way,” Micky uttered as he pulled Max away from the reporters.

Several men from the hospital staff started to escort the DBSK boys safely into the emergency room.

And as soon as they approached, they quickly saw Michael.

All of them were horrified with what they saw. Michael was walking back and forth in front of the emergency room with his clothes all covered in blood.

Max quickly rushed to where Michael was standing.

“What happened? What happened to Fate?” he asked with a trembling voice.

As soon as Michael saw Max, anger immediately filled his heart. He quickly gave him a hard hit straight on the face. Max fell down on the floor. Blood quickly oozed out of the small wound on his lip. He was suddenly more confused on what was going on.

Xiah and Micky hurriedly helped Max on his feet. While Jaejoong and U-Know just stared at Michael’s angry face.

“What happened to Fate? I should be the one asking you that Max … She was fine when she left just a few hours ago, She went to your apartment to see you. So how come all of a sudden she comes home and she ends up like that. Do you know she was lying in her own blood when I found her. Tell me! What did you do to her?” Michael shouted with rage in his eyes.

“I didn’t do anything to her. I swear… I … I… “ Max was suddenly confused on what to say next.

“Yes, I know… you didn’t do anything to her … because you were so busy partying with another girl,” Michael said with sarcasm. “You’re such a low life. How could you do that to her? She gave up everything for you. And in exchange, this is what she gets? I should have never given her to you. I thought you would take care of her. But I guess I was wrong. You’re a selfish coward. You’re too unworthy to be loved by anyone,” Michael said with so much hate.

Max felt so low and ashamed of himself. He had never felt so degraded in all of his life. And yet he knew everything that Michael said was right.

Now he was suddenly realizing all his mistakes. How he wished he could turn back time.

“Michael… Fate fell down from a chair while she was arranging something in Max’s room. We made her rest afterwards but … she left as soon as….” Jaejoong suddenly stopped talking. He didn’t know if he was supposed to say what happened next.

“She left as soon as … she saw the news on TV,” Max continued with a low voice.

Michael stared at Jaejoong, then at Max. “She saw the news? No wonder she was so upset. The receptionist at the hotel said she was crying when she went up to her room. You’re really indespicable. How can you possibly hurt her like that?”

“I… I …. was angry and jealous,” Max suddenly blurted out.

“Angry? Jealous? Jealous of what?” Michael asked with confusion.

“Of you! I saw you kissing her in the parking lot of the race track. What am I supposed to do? Just pretend that I didn’t saw it?” Max asked with an angry tone.

Michael’s face suddenly dimmed. “You fool! Have you talked to her? Have you asked her? Yes, I kissed her. But I was the one who started it. She never kissed me back. I guess she was so shocked with what I did. So she just stood there frozen like ice. She almost had a serious accident that day because she was so busy thinking about you. Do you know what it feels like to actually see the woman you love go straight into a brick wall? I thought my head was going to explode. Good thing she’s a good driver so she was able to avoid the collision. After that accident, I promised myself that I was going to confess my love for her even if it wasn’t allowed. I wasn’t going to spend the rest of my life regretting that I didn’t even get the chance to tell her how I truly feel about her,” Michael then smiled bitterly. “I knew my confession wouldn’t make any difference. She was madly in love with you. And you were the only man she ever gave her heart to. I thought that after I confessed my feelings for her … it was the end of our friendship. So I kissed her. I kissed her because I wanted to prove to her how much I loved her…. And I wanted to have a special memory of her even if we suddenly drift apart and say goodbye. So you don’t have to blame her. It was all my fault. If you want to be angry with someone, just throw all your anger at me. I’ll gladly accept it,” Michael said with a low and a shaking voice.

Max was totally speechless. Now everything was finally clear. He had been totally blinded by his jealousy and anger. He was suddenly angry at himself. Now he knew he was so unfair with Fate. And somehow he didn’t know how to start to ask for her forgiveness. His heart ached just by thinking about the cruel things he had done to her. And then fear immediately filled his heart… how he wished he wasn’t too late.

“I’m sorry,” Max softly uttered. “I… I loved her too much that it made me blind and weak.”

Michael looked at Max. He was about to say something when a doctor suddenly came out of the emergency room.

“Doctor, how’s Fate? How is she? Is she all right?” he worriedly asked.

The doctor nodded. “Yes, she’s all right. We were able to save her on time. She’s quite lucky, even though she had already lost a lot of blood… she was still able to survive.”

All the DBSK boys sighed with relief after hearing what the doctor said.

Max’s heart was quickly filled with joy after knowing that Fate was safe.

“Doctor… what about … the baby?” Michael asked with fear and hesitation. He had already noticed the incomplete joy on the doctor’s face.

The doctor quickly lowered his eyes. Somehow he couldn’t look straight at Michael’s eyes. Then he shook his head slowly.

“I’m sorry. There was nothing we could do about the child. She must have suffered an extreme shock or accident that might have caused the sudden miscarriage. You should be thankful that the girl is still alive. If you had arrived at the hospital, a few minutes late, she wouldn’t have survived as well. I’m very sorry about the lost of the child. But we did the best we could do…” the doctor uttered as he gently touched Michael’s shoulder.

Michael felt like all his strength suddenly slipped out of his body. He leaned on the wall behind him so to avoid his body from falling down.

“Baby? What baby?” Max asked Michael with confusion in his eyes.

Slowly Michael shook his head. Then he stared straight at Max and smiled bitterly.

“Do you know whose blood this is from Max?” he asked as he slowly showed Max the dried blood on his hands.

“This isn’t just Fate’s blood… But this is your blood as well… This is both your bloods combined… This is… the blood of your child. This is your baby’s blood! The baby you never took care of and never will. The baby was the reason why she trying so hard to come back to you. But you never gave her the chance. Now its too late… What a pity! An innocent child had to pay the price,” Michael uttered as he closed his eyes and wept. How he pitied Fate and her unborn child. He knew that Fate would surely be devastated once she learns that her baby was gone. Somehow he couldn’t bear to see her in despair. How his heart ached. How he wished he could take all the pain away so Fate wouldn’t need to suffer.

Max looked at Michael with his eyes wide with shock. “My child? You mean… she was pregnant with our baby? Why? Why didn’t she tell me?” he asked with a trembling voice while tears were already clouding his eyes.

Michael looked at Max one last time. “It’s over, Max. The only thing that binds the two of you now is already gone. Tell me, if she had told you about the child… would you have believed her that it is your child she’s carrying? You were so consumed by your own emotions that you never cared about what she was feeling or what she was going through. All you cared about was yourself. You don’t deserve her love. You don’t deserve her trust. You don’t deserve to be a father.”

Michael’s words started to echo in Max’s head. Everything was making him mad. He wanted to scream and shout. He wanted to hurt himself continuously for being such a fool.

“My baby’s gone…” he repeated to himself over and over again as he wept so pitifully. He felt like his entire body was becoming very weak. And somehow everything was becoming blurry. Tears continued to flow out from his eyes. He knew it was already too late. A special part of him was already lost… a part of him that he could never take back…

He continued to weep…. While from a distance… somehow he could hear a faint cry of a baby as it slowly faded and faded away…
